Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaevonn Harris.
Hi Jaevonn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Jaevonn Harris, I’m a Creative from Detroit, MI. My story begins, second grade, where I first started to draw. Drawing is my lifelong passion, an activity I refuse to live without. I went to a performing arts school in Detroit and always attended various art classes on the weekend. Heck, even my first job was in an art gallery. But drawing isn’t all I do. I make clothes, I make music, I even graduated Law School recently. I am determined to live a life without limits. Anything I decide to do , I set out to do it, If I want to be an astronaut tomorrow, I’ll pursue it no matter what type of box people may think I’m restricted to.
Present day, I am pursuing my legal career while building my website, gettothecorner.com into a multimedia powerhouse.
My site features articles I call “Life Logs” which are brief writings about daily lessons, it features original artwork, music, and my clothing line. “WELÇOME©: HAND DRAWN GRAPHICS”, which features my hand drawn designs on beautiful garments. The drawings are inspired by my of love pop of culture, like anime, sports, and hip-hop.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My Life has been the opposite of smooth. I came from an impoverished neighborhood, although we never lacked for necessities, maintaining was never easy. Especially as I grew up into a man, various experiences dragged me through the dirt. I remember having to walk hours to/from places during college days because the bus routes would end and uber was not out yet lol. I remember having to stretch twenty dollars for a week, I remember not having enough money to wash clothes, had to use the Lysol to spray the draws until the money came (real trife I know). That’s nothing, I got struggle stories for days, but struggle is what made me. I’m glad I never got anything when I wanted it. It taught me patience and strengthen my faith in God. Like any sensible person I would rather not go through the pain, but you have to walk through the rain, in order to reign (don’t let that go over your head lmao).
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As stated earlier, I am a multi-layered individual. I specialize in being me to the fullest, whatever interests me I pursue, from music to fashion to law, I want to do it all and I see nothing wrong with that. What I’m proud of the most? I’m proud of being a beacon of hope for my family and neighborhood, I’m proud of being a black young man, who didn’t go the stereotypical route and who continues to strive for excellence despite all the odds against me. (Ok a little of my life is stereotypical because I still rap lmao).
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was really a loner, I kept friends, but I found maximum comfort being with myself, I loved playing with my toys and drawing rather. Than being outside (even though I loved playing basketball and riding bikes). I was the type to write a storyline for my toys to play out, I used to write full episodes and synopsis, I would have Goku interact with the Red Ranger and all type of stuff, I was doing crossovers before it was a thing lmao.
