Daily Inspiration: Meet Garren Lofgreen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Garren Lofgreen.

Hi Garren, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My interest in graphic design and branding is pretty straightforward, my dad is a graphic designer and from the time I was a kid I always thought it looked like a fun.
When I was in elementary school we talked about which fonts would be most appropriate for a book report. We talked about what colors work on billboards, and why one logo is more memorable than another.
When I was in college I studied design at BYU. I thought working summers at my dad’s agency would alone get me through the program. It was a pretty big shock when I realized it would be a lot of hard work to be as good as I wanted to be.
After graduating I worked at my dad’s agency for a couple of years before branching out and working as an Art Director at Plexus Worldwide.
I was there for nearly six years and during that time helped rebrand the company and grow it internationally.
After Plexus I started my own agency in January of 2021. We’ve been in business for about four and a half years now and have the most incredible clients all across the country. I have four full-time employees, plus a couple of part-time employees.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve really been fortunate in that I love hard work. Passion and desire will only take you so far in any field, it takes hard work, late nights, dedication, and focus to get where you want to be.
All that to say, no, it hasn’t always been easy, but it’s always been fun.
In 2014 I left Catapult Strategic Design to get out and experience some new things. I began working as an Art Director at a company called Origami Owl. I really enjoyed working there but after just a few months their profits weren’t were they needed them to be and had to pay-off nearly half their staff. I was the first one called into HR that morning and as I waved by to everyone, the cardboard box that held my few belongings broke open from the bottom and my stuff spilled all over the ground…
My wife was 9 months pregnant with our first child and there was a lot of fear for the future.
I eventually ended up at a Plexus Worldwide as their Art Director, but in the middle of the covid pandemic and just a couple months after our twins were born, (kids 3 and 4), I knew I needed to leave and start my own agency. It has never been easy, a lot of ups and downs, but it’s always been fun.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My design/branding/marketing agency is called Perspicuous. We are great at helping companies bringing their brands to life. We lead brand positioning workshops, design logos and style guides, design and build websites, all with the dedicated focus on building a brand that resonates with their target audience.
At Perspicuous we have a small team of incredibly talented designers that are willing to take on any challenge and do great work. We work quickly, we’re affordable, and often times do what seems impossible.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I’ve been given a specific set of gifts and talents and it’s up to me to use them to bless others. Every day I look for opportunities to be a blessing in the lives of my clients, my employees, and my family.
