Today we’d like to introduce you to Garett Kanters. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Hi-Pitch Media was founded by Garett Kanters [@6illigan] & Tyler Reinfeldt [@nappyvisuals_] in January of 2019. We had realized Phoenix needed a hub for culture & talent so we got together & had a meeting at the Desert Ridge Barnes & Noble & figured out what we were going to create. Hi-Pitch Media focuses on capturing global talent, content & culture & hopefully in the process, we can help shine some light on the city of Phoenix & the talent it holds.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Launching a media company wasn’t the easiest thing to do. Luckily Nappy & I are fairly well connected within the music scene and Phoenix itself so we were able to quickly get alongside artists/creatives and start capturing the culture and content we needed to get our Youtube started, which just now has hit 1400 subscribers & almost 600,000 total views as of today and it only keeps going higher! Covid definitely stunted Hi-Pitch’s growth though. I didn’t go to a show for almost a year and social content to capture during covid was minimal, and it felt as if most people had bigger concerns than what was going on in the music industry/ local scene.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Nappy Ty directs & shoots/edits a ton of music videos as well as being a co-owner of one of the valley’s newest buy/resell clothing shops Legal Trap Clothing! Myself, Gilligan, I sell a lot of clothing as well and I was also doing a lot of promotion & selling tickets for shows pre-covid & am currently working on securing an A&R offer while being focused on growing Hi-Pitch to where it needs to be. I’ve dabbled in Artist Management but am currently not managing any artists. I’ve accumulated over 1.2 million streams on my SoundCloud where I host exclusive music from artists I enjoy, and I also enjoy directing music videos & pretty much most behind the scenes/creative aspects. I like to connect people too. I recently just helped get Marino infantry & A$ap Ant to slide through Nappys store on their US tour for a fire clothing pop-up. That was fire to help put together.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I (Garret) grew up in phoenix & I honestly didn’t even listen to rap until the end of middle school. I rode BMX most of those years so I spent a lot of time out at skateparks & riding street spots in the city. Weird cause I seen the whole No Jumper movement arise since No Jumper & TCU originally started to interview BMX riders & showcase BMX riding & eventually moved on to musicians.
& I (Nappy) was born in Wisconsin but moved to Phoenix young. Always had an interest in cameras but I remember being young & watching things on MTV (back when it had its good run) & love the content they brought like Runs house, MTV cribs, or Pimp my Ride w/ Xzibit. I just became a student to the culture & wanted to find my way in it & that’s when I came to music videos.
