Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernando Bandin.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Long story short, I started by taking a risk. I had zero clientele and still decided to sublease a studio from a fellow Audio Engineer with whom I built a relationship over time as I pursued my passion for recording my own music. I would get up for work, clock in from 9 pm-6 pm then except for any sessions I could get. There were countless nights I wouldn’t get home till 5-6 in the morning.
On top of that, the studio is 45 mins away from where I live. Doing this forced me to learn and do things I didn’t do before. I did this for about a little over a year. I decided to jump ship as soon as I was able to justify quitting my job even the slightest bit. In my mind, it was now or never. Fast forward almost 2 years and I’m still living my dream as I do everything I can to reach my goals, happily with my wife of ten years and fur babies.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I decided to lease the studio, I started having car problems I’m pretty sure there was a span of a few months I didn’t have a car of my own to travel back and forth freely.
My wife was let go from work due to covid.
In the months I didn’t make enough money to cover the studio rent.
Balancing time for everything else.
and the list goes on.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
You know the music you hear on the radio or your music streaming service. I’m the guy who can record all that and prepares the music for distribution.
In other words, I’m an Audio Engineer. I specialize in recording, but I also mix and master. I’m most proud of the moment I quit my job to live my dream. A couple of runner-ups are the time I met grammy winning producer “Ill Mind the Producer” and had a chance to record “Mark Battles” while he was on tour in 22.
Any big plans?
I don’t want to show my cards. I can’t say much but I know I’ve reached a point where the comfort I had created for myself is no longer sufficient and I hunger for more success. I have goals I need to reach.
