Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Blackshear.
Faith, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my content creator journey about 2 years ago during the summer of 2020 when the BLM movement was at its peak. Since then, I’ve gone on to work with brands like Fenty Beauty, Selkie, Good American, Jason Wu Beauty, and more!
I’ve experienced so many incredible opportunities along my journey, that I couldn’t be more thankful for – and I’m definitely super thankful for all of my friends, family, and connections that have made it all possible.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a part-time content creator trying to “make it”, my biggest struggle has definitely been trying to keep up with the industry without burning out for good.
Burnout falls upon us all at some point, but I think it’s especially hard for creatives because you’re essentially always working – whether those feelings come from trying to brainstorm new content ideas, the constant feeling of not doing enough, comparing yourself to other people in your field, or trying to keep up with trends that seem to last only a day or two.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned to help myself from burning out is making sure that I’m always taking time out of each week to have quality time with friends and family. My relationships are extremely important to me, and so is my mental state!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a content creator who specializes in fashion, while also touching on beauty and lifestyle. My goal in the content that I create is to inspire my audience to be their authentic selves, by expressing themselves through fashion, beauty, personality, faith, and anything else that their heart desires!
The thing that I am the proudest of as I continue my creative journey, is how I don’t let others’ opinions affect the way I choose to express myself. Although I’m a small creator and don’t receive as many judgments as bigger creators, people will always feel the need to express their opinion, whether it’s good, bad, or simply a suggestion.
I feel it’s important that we all value our individuality and present ourselves in the manner we see fit, or we will all become walking clones of each other!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In terms of content creators and influencers, I feel as though the industry will become more and more saturated.
There has been a new narrative of everyone needing to quit their 9-5 and become an entrepreneur, influencer, or business owner – but this just isn’t realistic.
I’m not sure how I’d forecast the future of these fields to look, but I can definitely tell that there will be a much bigger pool of people stepping into jobs where you essentially work for yourself!
