Daily Inspiration: Meet Eleanor DeMore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eleanor DeMore.

Eleanor DeMore

Hi Eleanor, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. Before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk you through how you got to where you are today.
Well, I studied Photojournalism at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. I fell in love with the process of observing stories and then finding creative ways of capturing them. That love led me to Santa Monica, CA, where I worked for a fine art photography studio called Classic Kids. After that job, I held my photography as a side gig until I had my baby boy. That’s when I transitioned to full-time Photographer. Before going full-time, I was always known as a “yes” girl. I’d shoot pretty much anything. I have now reached the point where I’ve been fortunate enough to niche down on weddings, engagements, and elopements. I love love. Taking my background in journalism and bringing it into the space of two people adoring one another is an absolute gift. I never thought I could enjoy what I do for work so much. I’ve had an incredible support system and clientele that have made my journey fun and exciting. I can’t wait to see where it leads me and who it leads me to.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge along the way was just how long it took for me to direct myself toward a niche. Broadly, I love a good story, whether it be a love story or not, so I found myself doing all sorts of documentary-style shoots for a while and not knowing how to narrow down while also feeling the desire to narrow down. At the end of the day, that direction came when I started paying attention to what excited me to sit down and edit. People in love do that for me. I enjoy the planning, the shooting, the editing, and the wonderful moment of delivering a gallery that has visually captured their story.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an Arizona-based wedding photographer who is more than willing to travel. I’m known for making people comfortable, leaning into the natural chemistry, and gently directing without stiff posing. I’m proud of my eye. Listening to a couple tell their story and observing their connection is one thing. It is another thing to take my eye and tell it how I, Eleanor, see it. I’m the only one out there. Not everybody will want me or my style, and that’s great. That’s why there are so many of us photographers out there, and if I’m not your gal, I can promise you there is a photographer out there who is. I’m so proud of having gotten to this point where I’m not people-pleasing with how I shoot or edit. People trust me and pay me to play with their story visually, and I love it so much.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success as an artist is catching an eye. It’s presenting my work and having someone else be moved by it,
