Today we’d like to introduce you to DePhane Weaver.
Hi DePhane , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always been a gardener or have had some kind of plant for as long as I can remember. Living sustainable and gardening naturally go together & I love to share my knowledge and what I have laying around. Once I found out about the LFL’S I was inspired by the concept and wanted to do the same with all things gardening. I was already sharing seeds N plants along side my LFL and people were getting so excited that I wanted to share this experience on a global scale by forming our non-profit organization so more communities could have this and get excited the way the people in my community did. From there we branched out and stared with more educational workshops and garden tours. We’re now involved with our city, other non-profits, schools, universities, & 4H programs. By creating this non-profit our goal is to spread the word of the mission through social media and our organizations worldwide map. We are accomplishing this through volunteers, Seed Shepherds, garden tours, Host Stand tours, educational workshops, educators, & festival participation. The Seed Libraries & Garden Stands are shared spaces & a community service for all. We’re creating a larger food sovereignty network and sustainable future with these locations. Our slogan is, together we’re bring back gardening culture. “It’s a lifestyle!”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One obstacle is the technical side. Social media, the global map, & website. We have been extremely blessed with the volunteers who have helped us so much with the technicals. Another challenges are running this organization out of our home because of the limited space, funds, balancing work, & family time.

My profession is in cosmetology. My strong point is in art and presentation. On top of everything else I love to create habitats for the birds, bees, butterflies, humming birds, worms, lizards, & bugs.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Mesa is a beautiful city with great water retention infrastructure, beautiful parks, and world class mountain biking.
Dislikes. It’s getting crowded fast.
