Daily Inspiration: Meet Cynthia Holtzen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Holtzen.

Hi Cynthia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been creating boards for friends and family for the last seven years. It was always just a hobby of mine because I have a full-time career in financial sales. I started Modern Brie during The pandemic as a creative outlet and because I saw the need for different ways for people to celebrate special occasions in their lives when sheltering in place at home. When I created my Instagram account, I wasn’t sure I would sell one board, let alone over 100 in my first year. We were able to be a part of several backyard weddings, elopements, baby showers and birthdays. Since March of 2020, I have expanded my business to a commercial kitchen, started teaching virtual and in person Charcuterie Workshops with the Art House in Downtown Gilbert, and Digital content creation for several domestic and international brands on my social media platforms. I love having this business to satisfy the creative side of my brain, whereas my career satisfies my strategic side.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Returning to office full-time this summer created a challenge in juggling my business and career. I inevitably decided to close orders for the summer and pivot my business to teaching classes and digital contact creation to find a better work-life balance. I plan to re-open orders for the holidays and reevaluate my business model next year.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in luxury charcuterie boards and grazing tables as well as in person workshops at The Art House. I only source the finest ingredients for my clients, so they always know that they can expect an elevated & unique experience when they order a Board from Modern Brie.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that Gilbert has a small-town feel but the appeal of a large city with all of the amazing restaurants and shops.
