Daily Inspiration: Meet Catie Menke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catie Menke

Hi Catie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always been a creative, but I actually started out as a dancer, eventually as a pro cheerleader with the Arizona Cardinals. My passion for movement still influences my art and photography.

I went to school for graphic design at the Art Institute of Phoenix and fell into photography as I continued to follow my passions. I started out taking pictures of friends, and then more people wanted to be a part of it.

My business has ranged from empowerment events to a contributor blog, and now I focus fully on photography and art. Two years ago, I quit my corporate job and started working for myself full-time. I have a practice of daily creation that shapes the type of work that I’m doing now.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been curvy. My path has taken surprising turns from when I thought I would become a graphic designer in school to now doing mostly photography and hand-crafted art.

My intuition has guided me through it all! It’s like the universe sent out little nudges that shaped my journey, and I really loved not only the journey but also where I ended up.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a photographer, specializing in fashion and beauty. I work with models to build their portfolios, capture fashion shows behind the scenes, and work with fashion and beauty brands to bring out their aesthetic.

I am also known for my mixed media art, where I take my original photos and cut, layer, and paint them to create edgy artwork. My art is part of what sets me apart, combined with my unique creative direction at photoshoots.

I’m most proud of my daily art practice, which fuels my creativity in all my work. I am over 275 days in!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My family has been a big part of my life, helping me get here by believing in me. My fiancé, Eric, has supported me in my daily art practice and provided a space for me to be my best. I have had so many other friends, supporters, and professional partnerships along the way that have boosted me as well. I am so grateful for all of them!
