Daily Inspiration: Meet Candy Scott
Today we’d like to introduce you to Candy Scott.
Hi Candy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My name is Candy Scott, aka TechNoirCandy. I am a multidisciplinary artist who creates & designs a sustainable line of clothing, multimedia video animations, and digital content. My graphics are a sum alchemical combination of work rooted in photography and other raw tangible materials to create digital glitch art with metaphysical & space punk cyber noir aesthetics that tell contemporary stories about society’s anxieties on the edge of change and transcendence. Through my mixed media creations, I explore how technology can adapt us into something new – or maybe reconfigure our existing selves forever. In 2019, I created my brand and released a line of futuristic athleisure clothing. The high quality of all pieces created sustainably with premium vegan-based materials and Direct to Garment digital print technology makes my brand stand out. I am frequently asked why Tech Noir comes from my passion for “tech” past, present, and future. My work references both technologies and an homage to Electronic music culture, robotics, and Space culture. There are a lot of references to Metaphysics and Yogic Science -the original Future Tech. I started my artistic journey with paper and glue paste collage, which later evolved to mixed media 2D 3D collage paintings incorporating doll figurines, Hahnemule photo rag paper, and Swarovski Elements crystals. I learned how to graphic design and use digital photography. My art skills took on a whole different set of dimensions.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a self-taught artist, I’ve had my share of obstacles, setbacks, and challenges. For example, when I started sewing, I needed to learn how to operate a sewing machine. Before I could even start sewing, I had to learn how to thread the needle, fill the bobbin, and figure out how to use the machine. And then, of course, there was the whole issue of making something that looked like it belonged in a store. These days, I’m an accomplished sewist, and I have mastered a variety of machines and sergers. As for my other artistic pursuits, such as graphic design, oil painting, 2d 3d collage, multimedia videography, and editing, I’ve had to teach myself everything from scratch. It’s been a lot of hard work, but it’s been worth it. Seeing my artwork in print is one of the most gratifying experiences imaginable.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I love visual and musical media just as much as I love fashion. I create mixed media audiovisual mini-movies and collaborate with different musicians to sync up with my videos. My artwork is created with various methods and modalities. Although I am known mostly for digital work and prints, my roots are in glue and paper collages, oil pastels, and dance. I create NFTs and images, bend them and edit them. I start most of them through a photograph. For my clothing brand, I create all of my textures and images. I am also a ghost artist and design textiles for fellow designers. My clothing is inspired by Humanity rising, our species transcending the limitations that may be imposed upon us through narrow thinking and beliefs. We are meant to be a space-faring people. However, it is also critical to refocus on the beautiful planet we live on. Although we are from cosmic origins, we are also made from Earth’s mushrooms and bloom; we are Earth. Sustainability is an important factor in the creation of my brand, TECHNOIRCANDY.
My brand focuses on creating highly wearable art with futuristic aesthetics. I am committed to using sustainable fashion practices for my brand, including premium vegan-based materials, waterless Direct to Garment digital print technology, and a growing collection of OEKO-TEX-certified swimwear and surf lifestyle pieces. My couture pieces are created with sustainably printed materials and deadstock fabrics; all pieces are made with the intention of long-life use. All clothing is created responsibly and ethically.
The summer of 2022 was a historic one for me. I joined the FABRIC Incubator’s WEAR by FABRIC collective to launch my very own capsule collection, which ranged from meggings, yoga and surf lifestyle pieces, joggers, and bodycon, as well as my metal print gallery. My work can be found on social media outlets, Instagram and TikTok. It can be shopped online at www.technoircandy,com, on Etsy, and on Verishop.
What are your plans for the future?
For the rest of the 2020s, I plan to expand my fashion line to include lingerie and intimate wear. I will showcase my future collection on the runway in Paris and Tokyo. I plan to implement an end-of-life program for preowned and preloved TECHNOIRCANDY pieces to ensure they don’t end up in a landfill. I am very much looking forward to and preparing for the Metaverse. I have no plans to leave the material IRL art world behind.
