Daily Inspiration: Meet Brianna Gay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Gay. 

Brianna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was separated from my now fiancé, The father of my 4-year-old son. 2020 I living in my home town Cleveland, oh. after 8 years of being away, a college dropout and single mother working a regular 9-5 job at 27. Though it seemed bad at times the love of my family and son helped pushed me through 2020, even as I was diagnosed with MS the same year. I couldn’t see hear or walk correctly for months. 

Looking back, I think that year was the reset some of us needed. At some point I even tried to get my license to sell insurance… but my passions lye with art and beauty. In Febuary2020 I decided to put my passions into what I called a “hustle”. I ordered a tattoo kit and started tattooing myself and my friends out of my Euclid apartment. 

Myself and my fiancé were just reconnecting after the holidays. We had planned before to move to Arizona, but I decided to bring it back up again as an active interest. After living back in my hometown again I was able to gain the confidence to move out of my home state for the first time. When my fiancé heard that he immediately transferred his work and let me know he would be starting work in our new state May 2021. 

So, I got rid of my apartment and I followed him with our 4-year-old and opened a home shop here in Phoenix, Az called “Freckled Tattoo; Private Ink Shop”. I’ve been tattooing people all over phoenix since. It’s honestly the best decision I’ve made in a long time. My first year’s impression, I love the people of Phoenix and hope to tattoo the public for many more. Just goes to show how quickly one year can change your life! 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been all rainbows and sunshine, I think I have the typical and personal setbacks of any business-like mental exhausts and having new ideas every now and again. But I’ve met a lot of cool people and even a cooler version of myself. I’m enjoying the journey right now. 

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I run a home-based tattoo shop in north phoenix. In my home shop, Its less pressure and lower prices. A lot of people are intimidated or just uncomfortable in cold public tattoo shops. I offer ink sessions in a cozy sanitized place where music of your choice can be played and smoke of your choice can be smoked. 

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I remember placing in the art show my 7th grade year back in grade school. I was so happy to have my art-recognized and to be praised for it. I get the same feeling after every happy customer at Freckled Tattoo
