Daily Inspiration: Meet Bobbie Modica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobbie Modica.

Bobbie Modica

Hi Bobbie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love of photography started in the sports world. I spent several years doing action photography for the athletics department at UTSA in San Antonio. My sports ranged from Women’s Soccer to Division 1 Football. From there, athletes & their families started asking if I did other types of photography. One portrait session led to another, and now I am a full-time lifestyle & candid photographer. I use my skill in action photography to capture real moments between families, couples, and everything in between!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a journey to get here. At the beginning of my career, I spent years learning my craft on the fly. It took missed touchdown passes and important baskets to learn the art of recognizing “the” moment. From there, growing into portrait photography took learning how to navigate a different business and unique interactions with other photographers & consumers in such a niche. I’m the photographer today because the road hasn’t been easy. My foundation is solid due to learning to overcome life’s obstacles & coming out stronger on the other side.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I like to call my photography candid. Capturing a person as their genuine selves is essential to the art I create & the process I’m naturally called to follow. I’ve spent much of my career not picking a specialization simply because I never wanted to exist in one box. As I’ve grown, I’ve found I click well with families and couples interested in hiring a photographer and wanting to grow with them. I have many clients that I met during their college years & kept up with throughout all of their significant accomplishments. I’ve seen babies grow from in-belly to five years old, documenting every milestone in between. I’m trying to say that my specialty is connection. It’s creating relationships & memories with the people who choose me to photograph their lives & that’s what I’m most proud of. I feel a sense of rightness when I leave a photo session knowing I’ve made a longtime client & friend. Seeing the same names pop up in my inquiries year after year is a joy. I’m most proud that my photography opens the door to something more profound than an initial consult & photo shoot and that my photos are a gateway to more memories to be made.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love how beautiful our city is. You can look in any direction & see a vast open sky that’s blue and crips & sometimes filled with the most brilliant clouds. No matter where you are, the sunset will always be stunning. The gorgeous nature of this place gives way to even better photos, too! You really can’t beat a naturally beautiful backdrop! Honestly, the only thing I dislike about the city is the traffic! There’s a lot of construction happening & that makes drives in between my shoots a little longer than I’d like. Who doesn’t complain about the traffic pattern around them, though? You can never get where you need to go fast enough!
