Daily Inspiration: Meet Anne Billings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anne Billings.

Anne Billings

Hi Anne, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It is true, anyone can claim they are a photographer overnight. I think the difference is who keeps at it year after year and invests in their craft. That will never happen overnight. Once I decided it was time to stop teaching kindergarten, I became stir-crazy about not producing art in this world.

Once my son was born, I picked up a camera and took a million terrible pictures. It is amazing going through those old pictures from 2011 and reminding myself how far I have come and how much I have put my heart into this.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Since Flagstaff is relatively a small town, I have learned to travel all over Arizona to book sessions. My favorite place to photograph is the red rocks of Sedona! I love exploring this beautiful state that offers such different terrain in a short amount of driving time!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I will always be the photographer who values a good posed shot where everyone is looking at the camera, but once I capture that money shot, it’s on to twirling, snuggling, and chasing each other in the sunset rays!

I suppose I am a mix of lifestyle & tradition! I guide you into posed positions, grab that shot, and then let you have your moment where I photograph around you. So if that’s what you are looking for, I’m your girl!

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I photograph every session as if I were photographing my own family. Being a mother, I know how important it is to capture the tiny features that may disappear overnight without warning. I have learned to work with clients in choosing a wardrobe which makes a world of difference in the final product.
