Daily Inspiration: Meet Angela Dirksen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Dirksen.

Hi Angela, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am the founder of JazzyAngel Productions and JazzyAngel Casting. I am a renaissance woman with 20 years of experience in acting, singing, and directing nationwide. I have been drawn to storytelling & the arts my entire life. After moving from NYC to California, I saw an opportunity for my creative endeavors and leadership skills to make a mark in the industry. I wanted to see more of myself (plus size/curvy and over 40) in lead roles in TV/Film. I wanted more than the nosey neighbor and best friend roles. I wanted the romantic lead and the sexy femme fatale open to me as well. When I started JazzyAngel, I wanted to provide a platform exploring diversity’s true meaning in our society. Not just representation based on race & orientation but everything! I want to create stories that break stereotypes and “norms.” To truly show that every person has a story to tell and a voice that deserves to be heard. So, I added writer and producer to my ever-growing skills, and I’m excited to do my part to get those voices and stories told.

JazzyAngel Casting is a boutique casting office with roots in Los Angeles & Arizona. I founded JazzyAngel Casting in 2018. Before that, I had been casting independently for 10 years. I started in NYC in 2008, casting indie projects and Off-Broadway shows. When I moved back West, I started JazzyAngel Productions and included my casting office under the umbrella of JazzyAngel Productions.

The mission of JazzyAngel Casting is to provide casting opportunities to projects that need to work within a tight budget. Every project should have the opportunity to tap into the best talent possible. I love discovering new talent and allowing them to share their talent.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh, the road could be smoother and straight! But that’s why I love what I do. I love conquering challenges and breaking through barriers. But to be frank, the biggest struggle is production costs. I have been fortunate to find many talented artists who love the scripts and stories JazzyAngel Productions is developing. Funding projects is the hardest part of filmmaking, so I always look for ways to raise funds and find investors to go on this creative journey with me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in multiple things. A true Renaissance woman! A Multi-Hyphenate, as the trend says these days. I specialize in comedy and thriller/horror in my writing & directing & acting. I produce stories that intrigue me and cast stories with strong characters that push me to find that “perfect” talent. It’s so much fun!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I have a background in musical theatre and love to sing. I am training in hand-to-hand stunts and swords & I do stand-up!
