Today we’d like to introduce you to Anelisa Duma.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up I did not have a home and all I really and truly desired was a place where I can find safety and stability. When I bought my first home I wanted it to look and smell good but I could not find a smell that would remind me of home.
In 2019 after I was retrenched I had so much time to myself and that is when I had an idea to actually mix notes to create a scent that will speak to my soul and help me create memories for myself and my kids. When I created our first scent Zwide Air I decided I could make this a business, that is how my journey started.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My business journey has not been smooth. I am in an industry that is not popular to my culture, the response to my business is slow however I can see steady growth. We are in our 4th year the fact that the business is still operating it means there is great potential. A week ago we collaborated with Maxhosa a big South African brand, that shows where Simuka Ambience is going and I remain optimistic about the future.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Simuka Ambience is a South African fragrance and lifestyle brand with a modern yet cultural point of view. The company was founded by a black female in 2020.
What is unique about Simuka Ambience?
From the start our collection of space fragrances have been embracing the Elegance of Simplicity. Our handmade candle and diffuser jars are crafted with love and care from recycled materials.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
