Daily Inspiration: Meet Amanda Durocher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Durocher.

Amanda Durocher

Hi Amanda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I am the host and creator of the New View Advice podcast, a healing-centered advice podcast that offers a new view on age-old problems and traumas. I started the podcast in 2021 because I kept seeing so many heartbreaking stories in the news about people struggling to heal from various traumas, including sexual violence, bullying, and the death of a loved one. As a trauma survivor, I felt called to share my experiences, hoping to help others struggling with healing their problems or traumas.

I started my healing journey in my early 20s after the death of a close friend. This was when I realized I had been living on auto-pilot and wanted so much more for my life, but I didn’t know where to begin. Healing from grief led me to heal from so much more, including childhood trauma, repressed memories, rape, sexual assault, and family dynamics. During my healing journey, I discovered that many mental health resources are insufficient or extremely expensive. I created the New View Advice podcast because it is a safe space I wish had existed as I went through my darkest days.

The New View Advice podcast started from humble beginnings, which means recording episodes with a cheap microphone in a dark closet. As the podcast has grown, I have been able to offer more free resources, including journal prompts and meditations. I am now supported by a wonderful sound and production expert and a marketing person who help me create fantastic content. I have listeners in over 170 countries, and the outpouring of love and support I receive from listeners across the globe leaves me incredibly grateful and motivated to continue on this journey.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting and growing the New View Advice podcast has been extremely rewarding but requires more perseverance than I expected. First, whether answering listener questions or providing one-on-one coaching, I always aim to open my heart and help the community feel seen and heard. Providing a safe space for the community is extremely rewarding, but creating and holding space for others is hard work. Second, as a survivor of violence, I don’t always feel like I can run at the same speed as others. I’ve had to learn to go at my own pace with my business, and that slow and steady can also win the race.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At its core, the New View Advice podcast is a safe space where hurt people can talk about tough things and receive empathy rather than judgment. On the New View Advice podcast, I answer listener questions from people who want to embark on the healing journey but don’t know where to start or feel lost or stuck. My special sauce is helping people identify their core wounds and feel all their hard feelings so they can move forward and live life to the fullest.

I am most proud of using my painful experiences and healing journey to bring more safety, compassion, and love into the world. I speak with many members of the New View Advice community, and I continually hear that I was able to help people through some of their most difficult times. I am proud of myself and the courageous people who choose to embark on their healing journeys.

What makes the New View Advice podcast different is that people feel safe having tough conversations and exploring taboo topics. The world is filled with pain and trauma, but I aspire to create safe spaces to look at complex parts of the human experience because that is one of the best ways to help people feel less alone and help them heal their hearts.

Please talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy.
I love creating. Creativity is my happy place. From creating new podcast episodes, videos, and free resources for New View Advice to writing stories, screenplays, and poetry, or even doing arts and crafts from Target, I love to create and be artistic. Creativity is scientifically proven to help people heal from trauma. I use creativity on my healing journey, and I encourage everyone in the New View Advice community to embrace creativity to heal and connect back to their hearts.
