Today we’d like to introduce you to Abraham Morales.
Hi Abraham, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I graduated as a graphic designer and started working for magazines like Elle and doing illustration for Esquire and Men’s Health. As an art director, I had the opportunity of working with a lot of skilled photographers and illustrators and eventually I started doing my own thing even when editorial illustration is always a great place to work. Now I’m doing series of illustrations honoring the power of femininity and right now I’m working in a series that celebrates the architecture and tales from my neighborhood.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, I think the most significant struggle I’ve faced is narrow-sighted people and the worst part is sometimes you believe them. As an artist, you should always believe in yourself, no matter what.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love to make illustrations from strong characters, someone who has an impact on me and I always design shapes before start rendering. Composition and design is what elevates an image above the rest.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I use Pinterest for animal reference and I always combine a lot of poses of human models for every image but I do prefer to photograph my own references, I have a lot of books on the subject of nude modeling and art books are an endless source of inspiration.
