Conversations with Venus Ochsner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Venus Ochsner.

Hi Venus, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Back in middle school using a digital camera always intrigued me, however, it wasn’t until the summer before my first year of college where I decided to buy my own camera. My decision came from always being inspired on social media and wanting to take pictures that could amaze everyone, so I knew I had to buy a camera for myself. I learned from YouTube how aperture, shutter speed, and ISO are the key components to a good photo; I practiced all summer and then learned more from a photography class I took at ASU where I was complimented by my professor and peers. Their feedback consisted of them stating I had talent for taking portraits and incorporating unique lighting. I was so happy others loved my work and it pushed me to keep going and continue my love for photography!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There is always struggle for everyone when learning something new. For me, it was learning how sunlight can really influence the quality of a picture. Not many people can or like waking up early and sometimes it’s hard for people to make it later in the day. However, I always work with my clients to make sure we get it done!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My most successful art is through photography and that is what I am known for! On the side for fun, I do paintings, drawings, 3D art, and sewing. Photography will always be my favorite thing; I am excited during the entire process because I enjoy creating intriguing images for others to have! The thing that sets me apart from others is that I am not afraid of trying new techniques, I like my portfolio to have many different types of aesthetics and angles.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My quality of being a calm person to make others around me feel comfortable to be themselves is definitely one of the keys to my success. I encourage my clients to do the poses they want while still giving them my ideas. I’m an open-minded individual and will hear them out so they get what they love!
