Conversations with Ulisha White

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ulisha White.

Hi Ulisha, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always been a very unique, inquisitive open-minded thinker. Growing up I realized that I did not want to be a part of the world that just lived with what we are dealt or stuck feeling content with the space we are in our lives. I always thought and sought out more and felt this is not all God has for me. I knew there was something greater for me to do and lives for me to touch. I started to think about my time with my family, other families, giving back and how we could have something generational that would not require us to just work regular 9-5s. I began to think of ways that I could use the gifts/talents that I have been blessed with and how I could turn it into generational wealth as well as teaching others… Being an entrepreneur was one of the best options. In the time of crisis, we don’t know where help may come from and if we are able to have the capability to be able to have all needs met in those times. Instead of being set back or being helpless why not create an essential business that would help provide more income and something that can also be passed down from generation to generation. I want to achieve that. I have family, friends and those that I look up to that helped motivate me. This is what made me decide to go into business for myself and my business baby was born. Uslay Unique Ltd is the name of my company. I also am a part of an amazing podcast/panel talk called Empower Talk. Owned by Hykeem Brown alongside my other Co-Hosts Jennifer Pena and Rachael Dowd.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This journey has not been an easy one at all but it is by far the best and most refreshing one. There will always be something trying to stop you or things that may happen but you have to know how to get through it. No matter the difficulty; and trust me there will be some down the line and a few nos but keep pushing. You must keep going. As a woman, a black woman at that it’s odds against us but we shall prevail and anyone can do this. I have been homeless, fought depression, been at my lowest of lows, in a good space in my life, and even now doing good for myself but none of it goes without challenges. I am an independent woman that wears many hats. It’s worth it but also remember the “why” and think of the outcome you envision. Hard work, dedication, and persistence leads to success.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work my regular job all the while being an entrepreneur as well as a cohost on Empower Talk. I decided to go into business for myself and the name of my business is Uslay Unique Ltd. I was thinking of something essential because essential is always needed no matter the shift in the economy. We sell the best premium 100% Virgin Brazilian Hair, Raw Indian Hair & 3D Mink Lashes. There are also custom colors for an additional cost. I also am a part of an amazing podcast/panel talk called Empower Talk. Owned by Hykeem Brown alongside my other Co-Hosts Jennifer Pena and Rachael Dowd. We are on all major platforms; such as stitcher, IHeart Radio, Spotify, etc.; and you can also check us out on YouTube. We are a group of entrepreneurs coming together and advocates for mental health speaking about major life topics in a fun, loving honest, and raw way. Overall, all of this has taught me not be afraid and not let my fear of failure stop me from doing anything. Also, to not let your current; nor your past; situations determine your outcome. Always have faith and know you are stronger than you know. I opted for the best and I will not get or give anything else but that. I am super that I listened to God, stepped out on faith, and not my nervousness or fear of failure. I know I have a journey ahead of me but it’s worth every step of the way. The best thing is I also love to give back. It just touches my heart to be able to give or help in any way, shape, or form. This sets me apart because I am passionate about all that I do. I don’t look for anything in return. I want to make sure that no matter what is done, I will be able to be used to touch someone’s life in a major way. Additionally, I am always looking to educate myself and position myself around those who inspire/ motivate me the most. Have to surround yourself with like-minded individuals as well as those who are at the place you are working towards.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For those of you starting out be sure to always stay organized and make sure you have a game plan for different phases of your business. Do your research and self-educate yourself so you won’t be caught off guard. Remember this is a learning process as well and you learn more each and every day. Don’t start out too big. It’s okay to gradually build until you get clientele. Be careful who you have around you and in your business. Always guard your mental just like you would your money. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself. It’s okay to work from home until you get a space that would conveniently fit your business needs. Continue to push through and it’s okay if you fail just keep going and don’t stop. Regroup if you have to but don’t quit on yourself! You only get out of it what you put in it, so if you do not put your all in it then don’t expect anything in return. The motto is ” I will keep working and pushing until I no longer have to work for anyone else but myself.”- Ulisha. One last thing, remember to be selfless and always lead with love.
