Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Brown.
Hi Tyler, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in the outdoors. Fishing local lakes, hiking local trails, and getting my feet wet with some California Quail hunting. In my free time, I avoided Saturday morning cartoons and opted for Saturday morning Steve Irwin shows and nature documentaries. Growing up only an hour or so from Disneyland, I’m proud to say I’ve only been less than a handful of times.
My father always took me out of school to hit the lake, explore the deserts, or take me camping. The childhood I was given will forever influence the types of things I enjoy. Being a now fully grown man, I can’t imagine a day at Disney when there are so many natural and wild spaces I haven’t set eyes on.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth ride. I’m creeping up on the 20th anniversary of my mother’s death. This road has always been difficult, my father did his best to provide a life that would offset the death of my mother, but there is only so much one can do. However, I’ve come to embrace that challenge.
For the last 20 years, I’ve done everything I could, to show I’m worth my weight despite not having a traditional upbringing, and as much as I wish my mother was still around, that challenge has given me a sort of chip on my shoulder if you will. A concrete goal to prove myself to anyone who thinks otherwise.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a wildlife photographer. I love to spend time in the outdoors, hiking, fishing, and one-day hunting. I’ve grown to have a fascination with birds after spending so many hours observing and photographing them. My proudest moment was discovering a Great Horned Owl nest in the middle of the Sonoran Desert and being able to document the majority of the chick-raising process.
I documented the nest before the eggs, with the eggs, just after hatching, the Male Great Horned Owl delivering food to the Female and chicks, to the chicks developing and almost taking flight. I knew these birds better than anyone, it was a shame when the site went “viral” and the natural process was interrupted by human spectators.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My first backpacking trip. We camped a Glen Aulin in Yosemite National Park. Beautiful waterfall by the campsite and plenty of amazing day hikes from base camp. I will never forget that trip.
