Today we’d like to introduce you to TruckDC .
Hi TruckDC, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started doing Stand-Up Comedy in 2017 while playing JUCO football in San Diego. From there, I got a full ride to play at a D2 in Tennessee, where I met an up-and-coming producer named Prod. DB started rapping on his beats, making comedy songs just for fun. In 2021 while playing Football at Ottawa University, Arizona, my music started to make waves around the school. The marketing director asked me to make a hype song for the athletic programs, and It went so well that my head coach heard it, and at every home game, we ran out on the field in a packed stadium to my song! This lit a fire and made me realize how much I love making music. A year later, I’ve released a successful album performed in numerous shows around phoenix and have been gaining a very supportive following!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As far as music goes, I’ve been blessed! I started making music people like out of the gate, so there have been no struggles on the music end—just hard work and progress. However, the grind to get through and graduate college was nothing light. During my first year, I walked 4.5 miles to practice and school every day and ate sleep for dinner on many occasions. Throughout the rest of college, I maintained 2 jobs, a busy football schedule, and being a student. I leave the house at 5:30 every morning and do not return home until 10 pm. Wake up and do it again the next day just to retire early due to injury. But through it all, by the grace of God, I graduated. Now I’m chasing dreams. It still broke tho, lol.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an entertainer. I love doing stand-up just as much as I love making music, and I’m confident in my abilities. A clever bar in verse is no different than the punchline of a joke. Words have always come easy, so the music came naturally once I found my sound. When I make music, I firmly believe that if it’s not something I would love to hear from another artist, it doesn’t make it out of my studio. I’m my biggest critic and don’t settle for below par. But I’m also my biggest fan, and that confidence creates many opportunities for me because I fear nothing and no one. I’m proud of how much progress I’ve made in a year of taking music seriously, but as a critic, I know I still have work to do to stay consistent and learn to navigate the game. I’m proud of everything I’ve accomplished in this first year but what sets me apart from others is I refuse to let myself get comfortable with what I’ve done so far. Comfortability breeds contentment, and contentment breeds failure. I refuse to fail.
What do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is making others happy. Whoever it is, family, friends, or perfect strangers, I just want everyone to be good. At least in the moments, I’m around them.
