Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Keppel.
Hi Scott, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always been passionate about fitness and nutrition and felt a calling to help others. I moved to AZ from Ohio in 2000 to pursue a career in fitness. I was the number 1 trainer at Bally Total Fitness, but my wife and I decided we wanted her to be able to work less while we were having children and I was maxed out with hours and the amount I could make per session. We decided to put equipment in our garage and I started training clients out of it. After just a few months we were getting too busy so we opened our 1st location in Tempe which was approx 800 square feet. Fast forward and we now have building that is over 4100 square feet, we have been in business for over 20 years, we have an amazing team of coaches and we impact lives across the US.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish I could say it’s been a smooth road, but it has not. I will say we learn a lot more when the road is bumpy and you are forced to overcome adversity. During the time we have been in business my wife had cancer twice along with some other health concerns. These personal events definitely impacted me at work, but with God’s grace and the awesome clients and coaches we have we overcame these health concerns and learned how to be a better coach. Covid was rough. We lost approx 80% of our business overnight. We had to choose to evolve or shut down. We started training more clients virtually and since then we have grown that part of our business significantly. In addition, we used that time to educate ourselves and be more well rounded coaches and people.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We specialize in training women for beauty pageants. We are the official trainer for several orginizations and several states in the Miss USA and Miss America pageants. We also specialize in pre/post natal, post breast cancer and we work with several businesss owners, CEO”s and corporations. I am most proud of the impact we have on people’s lives, no matter their goals and the fact we have several clients that have been with us over 10 years. I am also proud that a majority of our business comes from referrals. I feel one aspect that sets us a part is that we are truly a community of like minded people all striving to be our best no matter our current fitness level, goals and/or background.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I would say the most important lesson is you must be able to adapt.
