Today we’d like to introduce you to Sallie Jarboe.
Hi Sallie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
About 5 years ago I left a career that was no longer fulfilling me, in fact it was actually stifling me. I didn’t have a plan about what I would do next I just knew I had to rediscover joy!
This is when I fell in love with flowers!
Once a week I would buy a bunch of flowers and plunge myself into the process of designing beautiful arrangements for family and friends. Working with flowers is cathartic and each arrangement I created awakened my God given creativity and fueled my joy. I felt a sense of peace and fulfillment like I have never felt. This sense of knowing that I had discovered my passion was astounding. It was like a light turned on inside of me and I knew without a doubt what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.
From the moment I proclaimed “I am going to open my own flower business” God has directed my path.
Eliza Bloomz is lovingly named after my Granddaughter, Eliza and the “z” at the end of Bloomz is in memory of my son Zach. The name Eliza Bloomz embodies, love, loss, new life, celebration, family, joy. These life experiences offer a deep understanding and connection to the occasions people order flowers. I pour my heart and soul into each arrangement I create understanding flowers can bring joy and beauty to all of life’s occasions.
I have two amazing mentors, one from SCORE and the other from SBDC. These business women have become some of my biggest cheerleaders and have guided me through all of the ins and outs of running a small business. I value their insight and support.
I also became a member of Arizona State Floral Association (ASFA) which has been a great blessing. The flower community is filled with some of the most amazing and creative people who are encouraging and generous in sharing their learned experience. I now lovingly refer to them as my “flower friends.”
Last summer I attended AZ Master Florist training facilitated by ASFA and am now proudly a certified AZ Master Florist (AzMF).
Since establishing Eliza Bloomz, my life has unfolded just like a flower opening itself up to bloom and showcase all of its undiscovered, inner beauty. I am filled with joy and am living my best life!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have learned so much in the past year and a half. Designing beautiful flowers has been the easy part. The hard part has been all of the details of operating a small business. With the support of my business mentors and a drive to “figure it out” I have accomplished more that I could ever imagine. Establishing my LLC, writing a business plan, building a website have been some of the hurdles I have conquered. There is so much to learn and I am grateful for the support of my mentors and fellow flower lovers who have supported me along the way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Eliza Bloomz creates whimsical and unique floral designs. Each arrangement I create is one of a kind and filled with unexpected texture and color. I pour my heart and soul into each arrangement and strive to wow my customers with breathtaking designs that bring joy to all of life’s special moments.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I grew up in Scottsdale, even graduating from historic Scottsdale High School. Back in the day Scottsdale was a slow paced city filled with small, local businesses who provided excellent, personalized customer service while meeting the needs of our community.
My hope is that Eliza Bloomz can discover a niche that is reminiscent of the Scottsdale I grew up in and become the local go to florist in our community.
