Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Gonzales.
Hi Robert, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
For those who don’t know me, My name is Robert Gonzales, and I’ve been in the creative media space for almost 5 years now! The life I have now used to be nothing more than a dream while I was working in the restaurant industry. I used to spend long hours in the kitchen making food for hundreds of people every day and night, dreaming I could be on the other side of the wall, living out my dreams of creating media for myself and others.
Once the pandemic hit, everything in my life came to a screeching halt like most people, and though this was a hard time for most, I saw this as my opportunity to take the leap and leave the industry I grew to know and love for the last 8 years and begin making the change to follow my dreams. Since then, I’ve landed a couple of different jobs around the valley in my new field and, as of recently, decided to go full-time self-employed for all services photo and video related!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to where I’m at today was not a smooth ride whatsoever. I’ve learned how to navigate tough situations, unruly clients, and last-minute project changes on top of equipment issues while keeping up with trends. Though it sounds undesirable to some, it’s these bumps in the road that make you better and keep you moving forward in whatever career you choose!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a full-time media creative, I help you put your ideas out into the world with my talents as a professional photographer/videographer. Some people swear by having a niche and owning that, but that’s never really been my style. I enjoy being able to go from photographing food at my friend’s restaurant, filming products for a local clothing brand, and working with various models and fitness athletes/trainers.
Though working in a niche can be good for most, I personally believe switching things up can be more beneficial in the long run. One thing I’ve been told across all these industries is that I’m easy and fun to work with and bring a certain type of relaxed and professional attitude during the collaboration process!
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
The biggest piece of advice I have is to just get the idea out into the world. You don’t need to dwell on the perfect shot, your gear, or what you could have done differently; just get the content out and continue to progress your talents and skills. Perfectionism and comparison are the biggest obstacles you will face throughout your entire career if you choose this path but you can’t let it hinder progress!
