Today, we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Quiroz Palma.
Hi Oscar, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Mexico and immigrated to the United States with my parents when I was eight months old. Growing up as the youngest of three siblings, I was surrounded by the strong work ethic instilled by my parents. They taught me the value of hard work and honesty from an early age, principles that have guided me throughout my life.
I graduated from high school at 16, driven by a determination to carve out my path in the world. Initially, I set my sights on a career as an audio engineer fueled by a passion for music and technology. However, at the age of 23, I made a pivotal decision to pivot my career trajectory towards mortgage lending.
My transition to the mortgage lending industry was not a hasty decision but a well-considered one. Recognizing the potential for financial success and personal fulfillment, I embarked on this journey with determination. In my initial years as a mortgage loan officer, I had the opportunity to work alongside a high-performing team. This experience exposed me to diverse clients and challenges, honing my skills and deepening my understanding of the industry.
After two years of invaluable experience, I made the strategic move to transition to another company where I could operate as an independent broker. This shift afforded me greater autonomy and flexibility in serving my clients while also allowing me to further refine my expertise in mortgage lending.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges I encountered throughout my career journey was navigating uncharted territory without the guidance of family members who had pursued similar paths before me. Neither as an aspiring audio engineer nor as a mortgage loan officer did I have the benefit of someone within my family who could provide me with firsthand insights or proven results in these fields?
Convincing my family, especially my parents, of the merits of pursuing a career as an audio engineer or a mortgage loan officer proved a significant hurdle. The absence of tangible examples within our family history made it difficult for them to envision the possibilities and successes that lay ahead in these industries. Their concerns were compounded by the negative perceptions surrounding the mortgage industry, particularly in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. Despite the skepticism from those closest to me, I remained steadfast in my belief in the potential of these career paths.
Despite the challenges and doubts I faced internally and externally, I remained resolute in my determination to pursue my passions and carve out my path in the world. I understood that success often requires venturing into unknown territories and taking calculated risks, even in the absence of a clear roadmap or familial precedent. Through perseverance, hard work, and unwavering belief in my abilities, I was able to overcome these obstacles and forge a successful career in mortgage lending.
Transitioning into the role of a mortgage loan officer presented its challenges, chief among them being the steep learning curve inherent to the profession. While I was eager to embark on this new career chapter, I quickly realized that the complexities of the mortgage industry demanded a depth of knowledge and expertise that couldn’t be acquired overnight.
The early years of my career as a mortgage loan officer were marked by a continuous process of trial and error. The sheer volume of transactions and the diverse array of clients I encountered exposed me to many scenarios, each presenting its unique set of challenges. While some may have been deterred by the intensity and pace of the work, I viewed each obstacle as an opportunity for growth and learning. Every setback and mistake was a valuable lesson, further refining my skills and deepening my understanding of the mortgage lending process.
I made the bold decision to venture out on my own as an independent broker. While this move afforded me greater autonomy and control over my work, it also presented its own set of challenges. Operating entirely on my own required a new set of skills and competencies, from managing client relationships and navigating regulatory requirements to marketing my services and growing my business.
The transition was undoubtedly daunting, but I embraced the opportunity to challenge myself further and push beyond my comfort zone.

What do you think about happiness?
What truly brings me joy in life is the opportunity to make a positive impact on others in ways that others may have overlooked or neglected. Whether helping my clients, friends, or family members achieve their goals or supporting them through challenges, there’s nothing quite like being able to do for someone what they may not be able to do for themselves.
Witnessing the joy and relief on someone’s face when they accomplish something they’ve been striving for is incredibly rewarding.
In essence, what makes me happiest in life is the ability to make a positive impact on others, whether it’s through professional endeavors or personal interactions. Being able to lend a helping hand, provide support and empathy, and make a difference in someone’s life brings me a sense of fulfillment and purpose that I treasure above all else.
