Conversations with Nita Martinez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nita Martinez.

Hi Nita , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, and attended Carl Hayden High School. I grew up in a hardworking family where nothing was simply handed to me, and that shaped the drive and determination I carry today. Right after high school, I joined the Navy and spent 16 years living out of state before eventually returning home. I’m also a proud mom of two children, both are now adults.

In 2016, when my grandfather became very ill, I moved back to Arizona to be close to family. Shortly after, I met my husband John Martinez aka Porky Martinez, who is a tattoo artist. My introduction to the tattoo industry started by helping him manage his bookings. Over time, I noticed a recurring challenge: many clients needed fading or removal before they could get the tattoo they truly wanted. That realization sparked something in me—I saw the opportunity to fill that gap.

That’s what led me into laser tattoo removal. For me, it’s about more than just erasing ink, it’s about giving people a fresh start, creating space for new stories, and helping them achieve the tattoos of their dreams.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some struggles come with educating clients on the length of time it will take to completely remove their tattoo. Many clients expect a full removal in 1-2 sessions not understanding that complete removals can take 6-12 sessions over months and years.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in full tattoo removal and fading for cover-ups. I’m known for delivering great results while making clients feel comfortable and supported through the process. As a military veteran and part of the tattoo industry through my husband’s work, I bring both technical skill and personal insight. My goal isn’t just to remove ink, it’s to give people a fresh start and renewed confidence.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I’m naturally an extrovert, so I started by reaching out to local tattoo artists to introduce myself and let them know I offer laser tattoo removal. Building those relationships not only helped spread the word but also created valuable connections that support my business.
