Conversations with Myott Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myott Smith.

Hi Myott, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a child I have always had a passion for art. I looked at art as a math problem always trying to find ways to create the vision I imagine. With that I realized that I enjoyed painting and things and people that feel important to me and alot of my inspiration is my community my history and life journey. Through art I have been able to connect with people and empower a lot of young creatives that experience the same struggles that I do and part of the testament to getting where I am is the focus on telling my story and surrounding yourself with family and friends that can support you.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“How much time do we have.” lol. My biggest struggles have truly been with myself. Literally your mind is so powerful if you feel like you cannot, you will not. Overthinking will take you from feeling super confident to self doubting almost everything. One thing I didn’t realize when growing as an artist, is how emotionally liberating creating really is, it feels like an out of body experience and allowing yourself to move through emotions is key for me.

I don’t have a problem bouncing back from rejection of other, but it’s my own rejection that I truly couldn’t swallow.

For that reason, I start and end anything I do with an affirmation or positive self talk to create the environment and intention I desire or listening to gospel music (volume on 10, the only real way to listen to gospel music)

Mental reminder:

You are worthy!
Your art is worthy!
And that’s on Mary had a little lamb!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a full time creative. My daily aspiration is to connect and elevate my community. I am a very faith based person and as I continue to grow sometimes I am the student and other times I am the teacher: but each day I learn. I am a Paint and Sip instructor and host events and private parties all over the valley.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid has truly been a wild ride but I think that it has really helped me to appreciate my gifts and enjoy them fully. I have learned to always make sure you let others know when you see there gifts being used that the power lies in your words and your actions. Lead with love in all you do.
