Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Miller.
Hi Mimi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I found yoga in 2018 to help with my anxiety I quickly fell in love and decided to delve deeper into my practice and get certified as a yoga teacher. I got my 200hr RYT in 2018 and it’s been full speed ahead since then. While in teacher training I went to a sound healing and fell even more in love with sound healing and meditation. My first sound healing experience I was transported through space and time, saw colors and had an out of body experience as I saw my pain fade away. It was in that moment that I knew I wanted to bring this to the world. I wanted to help other feels and experience what I felt and experienced. I wanted to provide that healing to the world. It was magic. I then became a certified sound healer and it’s been love at first sound ever since. I left the corporate studio I was teaching at for 2 1/2 years and decided to go out on my own, to start my own business and work for myself. I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I offer privates and group classes out of my home, my student’s homes or even the park! I partner with the Plant Stand of Arizona and do big events out of their greenhouse as well as other companies. It’s only up from here and I’m so excited for the journey! Can’t wait to see where this take me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth sailing, but I’ve trusted the process and kept believing in myself. People will always be there to put you down and tell you won’t make it. But that’s when you need to silence those thoughts and believe in yourself. Covid also added quite the bump when all studios shut down and teaching wasn’t an option. Though now the world is getting back to normal and I couldn’t be happier to be back on my mat holding space for all you lovely human out there! The struggles and bumps in the road have only made my dream stronger and my will power keep going 🙂
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in yoga and sound healing. I offer vinyasa, power vinyasa, yin, yoga nidra, restorative yoga and sound healing/sound meditation.
What sets me apart from others is that I offer sound healing, it’s a whole different experience than any yoga experience. I use my gong, Crystal singing bowls, rain stick, Crystal harp, chimes, Buffalo drum, wave drum, and many more to facilitate a sound meditation experience. The sounds and vibrations from my instruments have the ability to reset your central nervous system, relax you, help you fall into a deep meditative state.
What I am most proud of is, the connections I’ve made and the students I have held space for. It’s their feedback and the warmth they fill my heart with. I proud of my events with The Plant Stand of Arizona where I got to guide 50 yogis though a vinyasa flow and sound healing. Being able to hold space for others fills my cup while I’m filling theirs. On my mat teaching is my happy place. Where it’s 1 student, 10 students or 50+ students, it’s all surreal and makes me beyond happy and proud to have found my passion and life purpose.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Due to Covid I learned that we all must slow down and enjoy the little moments in life. We were all forced to take a moment the go, go, go of life and take time to reflect and focus on what we wanted. Which showed me how unhappy I was teaching at a corporate studio, as they told you how to tech and what you could teach. And that’s just not yoga. Yoga is individualistic to each and every one of us. One persons practice will not look like another’s practice. That’s what’s so great about it. So same goes for our teaching style. Yoga is pure, raw and individualistic so why try to keep those teachers in a box? Students don’t go to the same yoga class every week because they love the studio, they go because they love the teacher. There’s a connection, a safe place, your home. When practicing yoga you can be in a very valuable space, you learn stuff about yourself you maybe haven’t realized, you break down walls you’ve built, you leave your mat better than when you first stepped on it. So Covid pushed me to go out on my own and connect with my raw self to provide the healing the world needed. When I teach yoga or sound healing, I hold space for those who may not be holding space for themselves and that’s where I have to be my raw authentic self. That’s yoga.
