Conversations with Mika Rayne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mika Rayne.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started writing stories when I was in third grade. Once I had my child, I really began working hard at getting back into writing in 2017! It started with me just writing for myself, but soon, I wanted to share my stories with the world. Romance is my go to genre to write, and then horror.

It took me a while to get some traction (social media really helped me out), but now I have a loyal fanbase, who I adore! My readers *are* my world. I’ve even gotten to meet some at book signings. It’s such a humbling experience. I always vow to write the best quality stories to keep readers on their toes.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t like to say I’ve ever failed, because we must always keep striving to do better each time creativity takes the wheel. But I also won’t say it’s been easy. I’ve been writing for the better part of two decades now, and am just now starting to see slow but steady progress the last two years. Every obstacle has been a learning experience that I take with grace. If we stop learning, we “stop” growing. And I always want to keep growing. Persistence is also key! Always look back at how far you’ve come and be proud of where you are now.
I know little Mika would be so proud of how far we’ve come!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an indie romance author. All my stories tackle a different trauma and have plenty of safe love/spice. I like to write characters who have “flaws,” because “flaws” are beautiful. I write about real people who have struggles and ups and downs. How they overcome them. How they fall in love and that person accepts them for who they are. Some of my books have even helped people leave their abusive relationships, and that is the most humbling thing I could ever be told as an author. I am so proud of those individuals for leaving and they are in a much better place now.

I’ve had strangers message me on my social media, saying that my books have helped them, or that my characters are relatable. It means a lot. I try to make each character unique, and that’s saying something, seeing as I’ve written at least 70 characters so far.

Currently, I have 17 books published, soon to be 18. I’m also working on writing my 22/23rd novels.

My most known books are Wolf Mountain, A Kiss Along the Wind, and That’s One Big Deck (That’s One Big Series).

How do you define success?
Success is when you look at your “art” and feel nothing but contentment/happiness…and think to yourself, “I did the dang thing!”

Success is when your job doesn’t feel like a job. When it just feels like second nature.
