Conversations with Michelle Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Smith.

Michelle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always had a passion for performing and making art. I wanted to turn it into something I could do for a living so I started training in anything and everything that I could get my hands on.

Today has to led me to start working with mentors and coaches into building myself as an actor, model, dancer, and overall performer. As someone who has struggled significantly with health-related issues, it’s been awesome to be able to surpass and thrive beyond what I thought I’d be able to do 5 years ago.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My health has always been a huge obstacle and has forced me to learn that I cannot grow without taking care of myself first.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I consider myself a jack of all trades. I couldn’t be satisfied with one art medium so I picked several.

I currently dance Latin-style dancing and am beginning in the ballroom, but I grew up classically trained in ballet and jazz. I have begun modeling within the last year and also have started to train as a theater performer. Give me any reason to be creating art in a performance setting and I will immediately jump in and learn and be involved as much as I can.

I am a Latinx, queer artist so being able to be a voice to the stories that impact people every day is my drive to pursue and grow. Stories are meant to be heard, thought about, and we should be able to learn from each other.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
It’s all about the network of people you build. Be kind and meet others with what they want and expect from you in a professional setting and they will return with what you need. Foster the connections you make, and you will go far.
