Conversations with Marquez Price

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marquez Price.

Hi Marquez, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story as a writer started as a teenager when I envisioned a career other than professional basketball for the first time. I wrote it down in a notebook. The intention was set, but I went into other things after college. I dabbled in my gift of writing but didn’t know how to get my work out.

The pandemic limited my excuses for ignoring my gift so I went into it wholeheartedly with purpose. In a year and a half, I’m self-published 5 books with four as bestsellers and one being published and sold to readers directly outside of all book distributors such as Amazon and Barnes & Nobel. Through my LLC, “Teach One Publishing” I provide writer consultation and sell merchandise.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been arduous at times and immensely gratifying at other times. Discipline and time management are both paramount.

The struggle is largely predicated upon maintaining poise as an entrepreneur because it’s not for the faint of heart. It is extremely challenging and demanding. Having boundaries and good people in your life helps because it can be a lonely road in which you question your own fortitude to answer the bell every day.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in writing. I am capable of authoring books in various genres as I have. I’ve written nationally published essays for the likes of “The Good Men Project” and have published poetry books that became bestsellers in seven categories.

I also host and co-executive produce a Youtube channel, “The People That I Know” which is an interview-based series highlighting a multitude of artists/creatives based in Tucson, Arizona that is getting national acclaim. What sets me apart is my ability to explore many areas of creativity as an artist. My work ethic and entrepreneurial acumen separate me as well.

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
I believe risk-taking is necessary. I also believe your chances are better when you plan beforehand. Sometimes you don’t have time to plan and that’s where intuition is heavily relied upon. Every time I write, it’s a risk in that I give of myself to an audience through raw vulnerability.

The art is yours while creating it but it no longer belongs to you once the public receives it. In a way, you’re at the mercy of millions of interpretations. Your awareness and understanding of that help you evolve into an overall better human being.
