Conversations with Marcy Nicole Gleeson

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Marcy Nicole Gleeson.

Hi Marcy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

Hi! I want to start by saying thank you for this opportunity to tell me story and my journey as a lash artist here in Scottsdale. Some fun facts about me are that I am a new mom! I have a 5 month old baby boy with my husband of 2 years, We recently bought our first home together and moved to Gilbert, and I’ll be celebrating my 40th birthday this summer!

Doing exclusively lashes wasn’t ever the plan! I actually wanted to specialize in skin care because of my own skin struggle growing up. But during esthetician school, I was actually really good at doing lashes & I also wore them myself, so that is where my love for lashes started.

Right out of esthetician school (done back home in Kansas), I got a job offer to just do lashes back here in Scottsdale, AZ! The goal was to always move back to Arizona, so everything seemed to fall into place. I got some experience, found my manufacturers to make my products, & within a couple of years, I made the choice to work for myself.

I started Marcy Nicole Lash Studio in 2017 out of a very small salon suite, and 7 years later, I have a bigger salon suite and now have chairs available for other lash artists to rent and do their work!

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely NOT!

The job I moved back to AZ for fired me after a week of training and never told me why. That was my first time learning about Arizona’s Right To Work Law and my first time being fired! My 2nd job was for a lash lady in Scottsdale who made me cry most days after telling me my work and pictures were so bad that “I needed to remove them before I embarrassed her!” I’ve never forgotten her words, and to this day, I try my best to create better pictures on my social media.

I also vowed I would never treat an employee as poorly as I was treated. So, I did learn something from each of those experiences that has made me work harder and harder every day as a lash artist… I suppose that is the positive takeaway in those negative situations.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I love this question! I started 8 years ago strictly doing lash extensions. Right before the pandemic, I started doing Lash Lifts. They weren’t super popular back then like now, but I still felt that service would be a great addition to my business.

My specialty is creating beautiful LIGHT Volume Lashes. I switched all of my hybrid lash clients to this new version a couple of years ago, and it was a massive success! It gives my clients a natural-looking lash line they all want while also adding a little more fullness without making their lash line look too dense and thick.

I would say I’m known for two things: #1 is providing great lash retention! Over the last 8 years, I have mastered my technique to give my clients their best lash retention to date, and I’m proud to say my clients come back for their lash fill with 50-75% of their lash extensions still on! #2 is lash lifts!

I’m obsessed with the natural beauty it brings out in my clients’ eyes, and they love it, too! Creating a beautiful curl in long, natural lashes is just as satisfying for me as creating a beautiful lash line with extensions.
