Conversations with Madeline Levy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madeline Levy.

Madeline Levy

Hi Madeline, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. I am a part of a family of five and am the youngest child. I grew up dancing and going to school in Tucson. From there, I attended Arizona State University. I currently reside in Scottsdale, Arizona. Growing up, I took dance classes, was involved in theater, played an instrument, and was on my high school Pomline. I enjoy performing and staying active whenever possible!

At the start of my professional career, I began working in retail and sports working for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Working in customer service, I knew I enjoyed meeting new people and learning about others’ stories and backgrounds.

In college, during my junior year, I jumped into event planning, organized student programming for an on-campus organization, and had an internship with a wedding planner. These opportunities led me to see my talents and find what I loved doing. I realized helping people and seeing their vision come to life was important to me, and I enjoyed being a part of people’s big day.

My most recent roles have been in hospitality and the restaurant industry. Still, I continue to enjoy being around others and helping with big life milestones. I like the idea of being there for someone and caring about their wants and needs for an event.

At this time, I am on a break from a big girl corporate role and have been assisting other event planners and companies in day of coordination and event promotions. I am seeking a new opportunity that I know will be the best fit for my career goals and interests.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has not been easy. I have moved around industries quite often, and being in events, there is not always the most demand for specific functions in Arizona. I have had many different roles and have gained a lot of experience. Applying and interviewing always gets to be a hassle, but also being involved and putting myself out there more has made me more connections and a stronger network.

During the pandemic, unfortunately, events were not taking place. This put my career goals back a bit, I had just started a new position in March of 2020 right before everything shut down, and was not able to return. Timing has always been a big factor in my life and I believe that specific opportunities do come when they should or should not.

I hope for the future to stay with one company for many years. Working with different companies and people I am grateful I have been able to obtain the skills and knowledge I have today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an event planner and have been a part of many different teams. My most recent full-time position has been as an event sales coordinator. I have over 7 years of experience with events, hospitality, sales, customer service, recreation, and weddings. I am most known for working events, being a dancer, and modeling in my spare time. I also am known for going to shows and concerts and I enjoy finding new events and seeking out new venues in my area to try.

I am most proud of myself for staying proactive and positive about any situation I have been put through. Some days are not easy, and sometimes, in events, things do not go as planned. I am able to adapt quickly and get things done in a timely manner. Even with so many changes in my life so frequently, I like to see the bright side of things and always look toward a good outcome. If I can make even one impact from what I do whether in a job or in my personal life, I feel successful and fulfilled.

What makes me stand out from others is my hard work, motivation, determination, and dedication. I have the ability to stay calm and not get overwhelmed in a time of crisis. I like to make good judgments of what is best for each situation. I enjoy helping others, working with people, and working independently.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I have a gratitude journal I like to fill out before bed. This helps me to reflect on my day as well, and it is a good reminder to appreciate all that I have. I also have a question of the day book with a question for every day to fill out for a five-year space. Each day is very different and helps my mind to think of new answers and see my answer from the previous year.

For work, I like listening to calm music or lo-fi beats. This helps me focus and clear out other distractions. I also like to stay active, stretch, and do yoga. I follow many holistic and health accounts to keep myself accountable for staying healthy and well.
