Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizzie Hogsed.
Lizzie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my real estate business in the fall of 2022. It was always an industry that I had considered, but was always encouraged to stay away from for one reason or another. It wasn’t until my own home buying journey where I truly fell in love with the the industry. Actually, when I think about it, it wasn’t the industry at all. I fell in love with the idea of how I can serve others on their path to ownership. As A first time home buyer, I was so overwhelmed and was sick of just being to told sign here, pay money there. No one explained the process to me. After that experience, I knew I had to ignore the naysayers and take a chance. From that point on, I dove head first and have enjoyed the journey these past 3 years have brought. I found a brokerage who encourages both individuality but gives you tools to turn that into professionalism, as well as connected with a mentor who has inspired me and help structure my business to reach its full potential.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road whatsoever. I wish I could say it was easy, but as it turns out, life does not work that way! The biggest struggle was in the beginning. I chose to start a business when my personal life was not thriving. It was such a struggle. I wanted to nurse my business and get it to lift off the ground, while also needing to give care to some things at home. Between learning an entirely new industry(in addition to real estate I coach dance & fitness and that was all I knew), and managing what I needed to at home, I was stretched too thin. My mentor was the one who gave me permission to take a step back. Once I did that, things started to flow naturally. I gave myself the space to reorganized and came back stronger than ever. The best lesson I learned from my mentor so far has been to create a people focused business. While I wasn’t sitting as many open houses or focusing on my marketing, I was still connected to my circle and the clients who I was helping prior to my break. Staying in-touch with them and showing up for them and their goals helped me to reaglin and jump back in as though I had never taken a break.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
When I joined the real estate industry I did not have a strong sales background. I went to school for health & wellness coaching and primarily focused on my dance & fitness business, which I still own & operate today. While I managed that business and assisted managing other studios, I never really had a sales drive. I showed up, did what I loved, and connected with my clients and members. I shared my passion & knowledge for movement and that is what boosted the sales aspect. Something about it just worked, even without strict metrics. I took that coaching mentality with me when I branched out into real estate, a much more metrics focused industry. I had to learn how to be a student again, and allow myself to be coached and adapt to something totally new. I think having experience as a teacher helped prepare me to start fresh and build from the ground up. I would say I am known for building a career off of patience because of that. I will never be someone to rush something as monumental, and let’s be honest expensive, as buying/selling a home. I will always listen and encourage clients to align with their goals, not goals that others think they should be achieving, It is easy to get lost in hustle of what your community is doing, listening to headlines, and feeling like you need to match that energy. However, coaching for as long as I have and across as many ages and abilities as I have, has allowed me to help individuals slow down and assess where they are and want to be. I take those skills with me through every meeting and transaction. I think that’s what sets me apart from others is that I have the ability to create a conversation and a thought process, not just push people through a transaction.
What are your plans for the future?
For the first time I don’t have plans for the future! This past year I joined forces with my mentor and became an agent on her team, NEWHAUS Real Estate Team powered by The Brokery, and have assisted behind the scenes to grow both the team’s brand and my personal brand. I can assure you, I always have big ideas swirling around my mind, but for right now I am keeping them as just ideas. They will certainly come to fruition when the time is right, but for right now, I am enjoying the space that I am in, and building the foundation for my next venture to take shape.
