Conversations with Lauren McElroy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren McElroy.

Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started with hair almost 13 years ago.

My parents signed me up for beauty school behind my back and I haven’t looked back since! 13 years is such a long time to be in the industry but it wasn’t until 8 years ago that I started really getting into hair color that my career grew full fold. Now each year. I feel like I get better and better and grow so much.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing ever comes easy, so for me, it has to be rough to the extreme to make my accomplishments feel just as good! For the last year, I’ve been fighting Lymphoma and this has been the hardest year of my life.

Even though I feel like I’m doing the best hair of my career I feel like I haven’t been %110 with where I want to be. I try and juggle work life, my health, try and have a social life all at once. Some days, it’s hard, some days it’s easy! I am about to be out of work for almost 8 and I’m definitely struggling with the idea.

I have such support in and out of the salon, that’s what’s kept me moving along,

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a hairdresser & independent educator.

Behind the chair, I specialize in lived-in color, high intense blondes, and dimensional brunettes. As an educator, I help newbies grow with up-to-date techniques and a healthy mindset. I am the proudest of how even still battling cancer I try to still service my clients and teach when I can and still manage to love what I do.

What sets me apart is that I’ve been through it all! Anything and everything so I feel like I can give great insight into things.

What matters most to you? Why?
Being authentic. Nothing beats a true good personality. I’m big on Instagram reels and just being my silly self. It’s so important to be myself, even if it means I look silly!
