Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiefer Moore.
Hi Kiefer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I draw inspiration from artists who have mastered their craft and take pride in what they do. This gives me a wide range of topics and genres to pull influence from, be it sci-fi fantasy novels, cult classic films, or other visual artists before me.
I believe my work to be a hint of my own personality, mixed with an admiration for the art and artists that make life the most interesting. I use art as a medium to explore my own thoughts and think that sharing them is an important and intimate way of interacting with the world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’d say the art comes naturally, but it is far from smooth.
For every piece I create and put out there you can be certain of the failed two or three that serve as reminders that I’ll never be above a need for revisiting the fundamentals. I also think a strong community can help smooth the edges of your work and provide valuable critique, and if you have a healthy art community in your vicinity you should take advantage and treat it like the priceless asset that it is.
One of my struggles is needing to rely on online communities which are a bit more difficult to cultivate and get people engaged in.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a visual artist and practice creating with a wide variety of materials. I pride myself on not being limited to one specific medium. I’m going to make art happen.
Right now my primary focus is on what I discovered to be called ACEO (Artist Cards Editions and Originals).
Since I was very young the allure of collectibles has always grasped me, be it marbles, pokemon, sports cards, magic the gathering. If there was a collectible aspect to the thing, it was for me. My awakening to art through this was in the watercolor illustrations of Ken Sugimori on my Pokemon cards, as well as the fantastic fantasy art in Magic the Gathering cards.
When I found that artists were making miniature collectibles, affordable art, and trading them with each other I knew what I was going to be doing. There are niche groups of these artists spread all over the internet, on eBay, Reddit, Facebook, and other forums. It’s too much fun to stop.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m looking forward to building more robust online and offline art communities. Facilitating spaces where we can appreciate and fawn over art together is an important goal for me.
Developing processes for curating and approving repositories of educational material as well as creating galleries for artists who want to be involved in the conversation, but haven’t found their voice.
