Conversations with Kevin Maxwell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Maxwell.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have lived in Scottsdale for more than 30 years. I went through the Scottsdale Leadership Program in 2014, and it was a turning point for me. It opened my eyes to the people and organizations that make this city special and taught me what it truly means to give back. That experience changed the way I see my role here. It inspired me to get involved, lend a hand where I can, and help make Scottsdale an even better place for everyone who calls it home.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Balancing professional growth with community service. Balancing my FinOps career with my community commitments hasn’t always been easy. But I’ve learned how to manage both with intention — building credibility in my profession while staying deeply engaged with organizations like Scottsdale Leadership, the SUSD Foundation, and Family Promise.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m FinOps Certified and AWS Certified, and I work in cloud financial management — helping organizations get the most value from their cloud investments. I’m known for translating complex technical information into clear, actionable insights. My goal is to help teams understand that cloud cost management isn’t just about saving money; it’s about making smarter, data-driven business decisions.

Outside of work, I stay active in the community through Scottsdale Leadership and several local nonprofits. I also co-host a podcast called Today and Tomorrow in Scottsdale, where we highlight local leaders and organizations doing great things in our city.

What sets me apart is the blend of technical expertise, financial discipline, and community focus I bring to everything I do. I love connecting people, sharing ideas, and helping both businesses and communities make better use of their resources.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m a regular listener of The Prof G Show with Scott Galloway. I like how he connects technology, business, and culture — it helps me think about broader trends that influence how organizations operate and make decisions. I also read a lot of history and technology books, because understanding where innovation comes from often gives context for where it’s heading. And honestly, hosting Today and Tomorrow in Scottsdale has become one of my best learning tools. Every conversation with a local leader teaches me something new about how people lead, adapt, and make a difference in their community.
Outside of work, I’m passionate about music. I’m a longtime jazz fan and a regular at Phoenix Symphony concerts. Live music keeps me grounded — it’s creative, collaborative and I love that
