Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Hall.
Hi Kayla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
In 2019, I got pregnant with my son and had him in June of 2020. I was a server and continued to work up until everything shut down because of Covid. I have a Bachelor’s degree and considered trying to find a job in my field after he was born, but the pay just wasn’t something I could manage after putting my son in daycare.
I so desperately wanted to stay home with him anyway and I didn’t want to go back to serving part-time either. I knew I needed to do something if I was going to make everything work around my schedule and still make the amount of money I needed to stay home. I picked up my first camera in April of 2021 and I’ve never looked back! I have taught myself absolutely everything and found my own way in the photography field!
I’m able to be home during the week and take sessions on the weekends. Both my husband and I have wonderful Moms who watch our son when we need and it’s honestly a dream come true to do something I love so much and be the Mom I always wanted to be!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a huge learning curve! I knew nothing about external hard drives, I had never used photoshop or Lightroom, I didn’t know good locations, etc.
The hardest thing was learning to use a high-end camera, it is not easy and since I had zero experience, I have ruined photos from sessions and had to refund people on more than one occasion in the beginning! I’ve just taken each one of those experiences and learned from them.
Truthfully though, the photography community is so amazing and supportive. They have completely welcomed me and encouraged me from the beginning. I have learned so much from them and my confidence has grown immensely since I started!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a natural light lifestyle photographer! I would describe my editing style as natural and earthy with creamy white tones and dreamy golden light. I love capturing families, couples, seniors, and boudoir sessions but maternity sessions have my heart.
I love showcasing the incredible way women’s bodies grow life and the way they carry their sweet babies so effortlessly and with so much love. Becoming a Mom myself, I know how special the journey is and that is definitely where my passion flourishes. I feel I set myself apart from others in the way that I truly want to enhance the natural beauty of my clients, I don’t use photoshop to alter bodies.
I am confident that I can show you a perspective of yourself that you don’t always get to see while allowing you to stay true to yourself and who you are.
Any big plans?
I am looking forward to getting into more weddings/elopements and telling my clients to love stories from the beginning!
That will make their maternity and family sessions so much more special knowing I have been with them since the beginning. I want to be a part of my client’s life and be there to document all of their special moments throughout the years!
