Conversations with Katie Trenaman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Trenaman.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
In 2017, I inherited a camera from my late sister. It sat in my closet for 3 years, untouched, as I was terrified to learn how to use it! Fast forward to 2020, and I was on maternity leave with my daughter, Scarlett. As we all know how 2020 went, I won’t go into too much detail about my previous job, but I knew I had enough of the uncertainty and needed to create my income. As $50 shoots turned into $75, I hustled and gained exposure through local mom groups. A camera upgrade turned into more income and exposure, leading to another camera upgrade with even more revenue than I ever thought possible, and I’ve never looked back. I have been flown all over North America for shoots, weddings, and branding, including Colorado, Mexico, Ontario, and more!

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some struggle I had was, of course, finding my editing style. It is quite intimidating being a part of the social media age full of others who have found themselves before you, who have the client base and the confidence. But I found myself through that struggle and am hired specifically for my style now, so the perseverance paid off!
