Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Taylor.
Hi Josh, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Before joining the mortgage industry, I was in the non-profit world. I worked as a youth pastor for 7 years, and then my family and I started a church a few months before COVID-19 hit the world. While we were leading the church we started, I entered the mortgage industry as a loan officer and began learning how to originate mortgage loans. The church ultimately ended up not working out, largely due to COVID-19, and I ended up sticking with loans. Having undergone a big life change from 2020 to 2023, my family and I decided to move to Gilbert, AZ, in June of 2023. While I loved my time working in churches, I feel as though my life is more “free” than it has ever been now that I’m not allowing other people’s thoughts and opinions to control my life – I feel like I’m in control. I can spend more focused time with my wife and two kids and not be distracted by the difficulties that my “previous life” brought.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Up until COVID, life was pretty smooth. Like with everyone, COVID brought about a lot of reflective opportunities for what my wife and I wanted out of life. We felt like everything we did was to accommodate other people – whether that was people in the church world, friends, or even family members – in many ways, we made decisions based on what everyone else wanted instead of what we wanted for ourselves. Not that being accommodating to others is bad, it’s not, but we were accommodating to a fault. The struggle was in realizing all this – we didn’t even know we were doing this until COVID-19 allowed us to “step back” and re-evaluate our lives and what we wanted out of our one life to live.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So I do several things.
- By trade, I am a loan officer, so I help people obtain funds to purchase a house. On the loan officer side of things, I specialize in investor loans, but of course, I can help any people with their mortgage needs, be it buying, selling, refinancing, or investing in real estate. What sets me apart is the experience that people will have before, during, and after the mortgage process. My goal is to educate people and provide them with options so they can make the best decision for their unique situation.
- My wife and I also recently began a business that helps both struggling marriages and those that thrive to have an even better marriage. We saw a need where lifelong marriage is viewed as optional, and divorce rates are around 50%. We’ve been happily married for 11 years and have worked with married couples in professional roles. I’ve officiated many weddings, so this is something that we could do to help the world in an area that we are passionate about. We offer several resources – social media, free marriage resources, video courses, and one-on-one counseling, and we’re developing an online community where couples can help one another.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
The most influential mentor in my life is a man named Dan. He’s been walking with me in a personal and professional role for about half of my life. I have loved Dan because I have shared some pretty controversial things with him, but he does not judge me or think differently than me but lets me process my thoughts with him. He’s supportive of basically everything I do. I don’t consider my father a “mentor” in my life in the traditional sense, but of course, my father is one of the most influential people in my life. I love it because I have a great relationship with my dad in a world in which so many have problems with their father from their childhood. Of course, we had our issues growing up, and I had my frustrations with him, but that’s all more or less usual stuff. I’m incredibly grateful for my relationship with my dad, and how he has fathered me inspires me to want to be a better dad to my two kids.
