Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordynn Lucero.
Hi Jordynn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’d love to! I became an Aesthetician in 2015. Before that, I was a makeup artist, I did weddings, quinceaneras, special events and Halloween. I was often asked skin care advice, such as how to address redness, acne, and tips for anti-aging. I didn’t have an answer for my clients and that was not acceptable to me. I knew I had to do something to not only have an answer for them but also to be able to help with whatever concern they had. This pushed me to attend The Studio Academy of beauty to become a licensed aesthetician. During my training, I fell absolutely in love with all things skincare, I had a new fire burning within me, a new passion that I wanted to go after! After finishing my training, I decided to attend The National Association of Laser and Aesthetics to further my training and learn advanced more medical-based treatments. I had a new goal to work for a surgeon out of school and gain as much knowledge as I possibly could. Upon graduating I was able to work with a few different doctors and surgeons. I learned a ton and was so in love with my career. In 2018, after the practice I was working for sold, I had a decision to make, stay and almost start over with the company or take a huge leap of faith and open my own studio. Needless to say, I chose to change my life and bet on myself and I can proudly say I DID IT! It was the best decision I ever made for myself, my family and my clients. Starting my own business gave me the ability to be my own boss, complete flexibility in services offered and the creation of something unique not found in the industry. I never stop learning. I continue to educate myself in the latest technology available to provide my clients with the best experience. I have an approach of continuous innovation and strive in creating unique combinations of treatments that create a new level of results. I have now been in operation for a little over 4 years. I am so grateful for the path I have chosen, it’s been amazing to say the least!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have definitely been some hiccups along the way, owning and operating a business isn’t for the weak, I’ll tell you that! Anything good requires effort and skincare is no different. Clients have to comprehend that optimal results from treatments require consistency, education and longitudinal commitment. That commitment will allow for the highest level of results to be achieved and maintained. Sometimes it’s hard to convey this information to clients in a way that they can understand the importance. What takes place outside of my treatment sessions is just as important as what takes place in them. Home routines do not need to be expensive or complicated, but they do need to be ingrained in a daily routine. I focus on education with all of my clients to ensure that their results are sustained in between our appointments. But just like anything, it has taken time, time to build a clientele, time to gain their trust, time to perfect my craft. It’s a struggle to get my name out there and show potential clients who I am, what I do, and why I am so different than others in the industry. Not giving up is the key to my success, being authentically me and showing everyone exactly who that is and what I do!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My job entails a few different things, I still do makeup as part of my business, and I also do results-driven skincare treatments as well as tattoos! I have a pretty diverse set of skills and options in my studio, something for everyone! I primarily specialize in anti-aging treatments, skin health and tattoo. I am known for my microneedling treatments, I offer multiple different kinds of microneedling treatments, I am 5x certified in the treatment and have been trained by the best doctors in the beauty industry. The focus I have on the natural healing response of the treatment is what sets me apart and why my clients get such amazing results. I believe that attention to detail and the amount of knowledge I have sets me apart from others in the industry. I am very proud of the training I have acquired and the knowledge I have for the anti-aging specialty in the Aesthetic world. Because of my extensive training, I also believe this sets me up for more success with tattooing and how I understand the skin and how it will react to a tattoo, microneedling and tattoos are very similar in the way they work. Of course, in order to tattoo, you must be creative and have an artistic background which I do! I’m definitely unique in that I offer these results-based treatments along with a creative element such as tattoos. I love making treatments attainable for novices just getting into skincare, along with those who have been getting treatments for years. Creating accessibility for everyone regardless of their goals. A huge portion of what I focus on is meeting clients where they are by creating customized skin treatments within their budget and comfort level that allows them to turn aspirational skin goals into something attainable. Skincare is not one size fits all, and should be available for anyone with any budget. These are the reasons I believe I am so unique in the industry.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I have had some of the most amazing mentors and people in my corner and without them, I’d be nowhere near where I am today. From my instructor Mrs. Tina who opened my eyes to the aesthetics industry and taught me what it means to be an amazing aesthetician, to one of my good friends Karla who invited me into her beauty bar and picks me up anytime I’m down or just needs someone to talk to who understands the industry, to my personal tattoo artist and mentor Angel who has helped me get to where I am with tattoos and continues to support me and my journey. I have so many more, the list would be too long! My advice to anyone looking for a mentor is to talk! Create relationships with people, all it takes is to click with one of them and you will have that person there to help you whenever you need them!
