Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Garber.
Hi Jon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I got started with an apprenticeship in St. Petersburg, FL, in 1998. Soon after relocated to Phoenix. After working in a few shops and co-owning a shop or two, I opened Dame of the west tattoo in Scottsdale with my business partner Josh Carter. We quickly outgrew that space and opened Grand majestic west.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our goal has always been to assemble the best team of artists possible. The biggest challenge has been finding artists with the same drive and work ethic as josh and I, people who are self-motivated and eager to be the best they can be as artists and human beings.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve always been attracted to turn-of-the-century European tattoo artists’ styles. Their style developed partially from the artist and illustrations they were exposed to. French fashion icons etc., so I try to incorporate the foundations of that style in my work.
What are your plans for the future?
My goals have always been to assemble the best team of artists possible. And sustain that level of quality for as long as possible. To make sure grand majestic west is synonymous with quality, creativity, and innovation and to hopefully one day be part of the zeitgeist.
