Conversations with Jim And Star Fiegener

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim And Star Fiegener.

Hi Jim and Star , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Jim and Star moved to Arizona from eastern Washington in January of 2020 with ideas of enjoying a semi-retired life in the beautiful sunny weather and serving as volunteers in a local church music ministry. Soon it became clear that their mission was to be forming a cover band that would be a positive and encouraging force in what was becoming a very difficult season in our world. In faith, and against the odds in a market that was quickly locking down, they began to build anyway. With a clear vision, they never doubted; they were undaunted and worked tirelessly to polish their craft and to find just the right people to join them; those who had the same work ethic as well as the same faith in the success of this effort. Many came alongside for a season and helped build, until finally the magic happened, and the dream team was formed. Truly motivated by love, StarAlliance Band is realizing their dream of bringing joy and laughter to their community through their music and their message of encouragement. Their greatest reward is seeing people sing, laugh and dance to their favorite songs and find a joyful respite from today’s challenging world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with any worthwhile endeavor, we’ve enjoyed our moments and seasons of thrilling achievements as well as enduring moments and seasons of drought and disappointments. By far, the biggest challenge has been finding band members with the same vison, professionalism and work ethic. We’re grateful that for the last two-and-a-half years we have enjoyed just that in our bassist Dave and drummer Tino. What keeps us going is an absolute faith that this is what we’re meant to be doing and that our band brings a huge positive impact on those it touches. That faith enables us to simply never quit even when the going gets tough.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Our work is to provide the best live music experience possible. We have a deep love for live music that fuels everything we do. We believe that there is nothing quite like the energy and excitement of a live performance, and we want to share that experience with as many people as possible. To accomplish this requires more concerted time and effort than most can imagine. The actual performance is the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to what was invested into making it happen. From the time we arrive at a venue until the time we drive away, every nuance had been planned and every contingency considered.
We specialize in having the depth and variety of music and style to be a great choice for events ranging from small house parties to large corporate or civic events, weddings, anniversaries, restaurant/resorts etc. The largest portion of our business comes from among the hundreds of retirement-aged resorts and communities that are here in the greater Phoenix-Tucson area.
We are especially proud of having an active song list of 140 of the most well-known and well-loved songs from many diverse genres such as rock, country, classic rock, oldies, RnB, pop and folk- something for everyone- all of which we can play at the drop of a hat. Having this extensive of a repertoire allows us to tailor each show specific to the desires of the client. This unique ability also enables us to be one of the only bands in the region that can provide Live Band Karaoke- where “You Can Be the Star!” Live Band Karaoke is just like regular karaoke but a lot more fun, as attendees can choose their favorite song from our list and come up on stage and sing with the band.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
We both grew up in southern California where we both developed a passion for music early in life. Star played several instruments throughout her school years: cello, upright bass, piano, and especially excelled on the violin. She was the same loving, caring person as a child albeit shy. As a middle child in a family of seven children, she was accustomed to being overlooked, and therefore relied on her inner faith in her God-given kind nature and talents to become the truly difference-making person she is today.
For Jim, his parents divorcing at age 10 left him with little supervision and guidance, which could have led him down the wrong path. However, at the age of 14, he saw his brother-in-law playing electric guitar in a little garage band. The song was “Already Gone” by the Eagles, and before the song was over Jim was “already gone”. He had found his passion, and poured himself into learning and excelling on guitar. In a few short years became a prodigious talent in the Southern California rock ‘n’ roll scene, along with it’s dangers, toils and snares. Thankfully a spiritual awakening led him off from that path, and his energies were redirected into positive music that touches lives and makes the world a better place.
