Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmin Montella.
Hi Jasmin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello. I’m the Creator of The Total Mothering Chronicles, I am a Certified Doula – Reproductive Health Specialist – Health & Wellness Consultant.
The Total Mothering Chronicles was created with all families in mind. The act of “mothering” is an ongoing activity for me. It is a thought and a need to nourish one another in different stages of life and being.
I am a woman and I am a mother. Everything that I do always resonates back to these two things. The processes that remind me of these things are always a little crazy but nonetheless – breathtaking. I had my first child at 20, my second child at 26 and I can say although parenting is a completely different experience – I knew about motherhood prior to my own experience.
It took me 8 years in total to decide I was going to move forward with becoming a doula, using the title, and starting a business. There was a lot of back and forth based on what I felt I could emotionally balance and what I could physically offer to the demographic I believed I wanted to help. I didn’t think running my own business was actually sustainable. Shortly after having my son, I began volunteering and eventually working for WIC (back in New York, where I am originally from). I became really interested in the other community members who would come to support our participants. I eventually heard the term ‘doula’ and felt like the description of the work was ME.
I moved to Phoenix in 2014 to find better opportunities, utilize my education, and explore my own journey.
I have always done community work or public health services – I’ve watched and daydreamed with my own mother about better ways to build a collective. The actual inspirational work was all brought to you by my grandmothers. The stories they shared with me about the wins and losses that they had accrued in life without anyone noticing – except other mothers. They told me stories of lessons and inspiration, I was taught herbal healing and spiritual medicine by these women, my maternal and paternal grandmothers and with all of the knowledge, I collected ways to approach health and wellness.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The goal is to create a safe space for families to connect, create and care for one another. So in short – not smooth but I love the scenery! As a Community Doula, a large bump in the road has been the COVID19 pandemic. Many of the families we serve are heavily impacted and that changes the scope of work we are able to provide. From not being allowed in the hospitals to Zoom visits – it’s been a challenge – but a blessing to learn different ways to be there for one another.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a Doula – I provide full-spectrum services to families, the service I provide most right now is Birth and Postpartum support. I love helping moms with natural comfort measures for labor, educating other adults in safe conversations, and empowering women to trust themselves and their processes. TTMC also makes handmade – ethically and locally sourced products and partners with other amazing creatives to provide great quality self-care and health and wellness products.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Message me! Message the people who dream so vividly with me! Support our efforts! We want families to have resources and be encouraged. If that is something you do or are down to do – let’s talk about how we can grow together.
