Conversations with Inferno Drag Show

Today we’d like to introduce you to Inferno Drag Show .

Hello Inferno Drag Show, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
The 5 of us met in the Phoenix drag community and instantly clicked the first time we all met. Once Covid-19 put us into lockdown, we decided to invest in our drag and to continue doing what we love performing! We started doing digital drag and streaming live performances on Twitch and Instagram and have had the pleasure of working with performers from all over the US! Once we came out of lockdown, we stumbled upon a disco brunch at Kähvi Coffee and Cafe, to which we introduced the idea of including a drag show with their already existing disco brunch, and the rest is history! We have consistently sold out every show since January of 2022 and now offer a night show every first Friday at 8 PM and at Kähvi in addition to our monthly brunch every last Saturday!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a smooth road?
As young entrepreneurs, many obstacles have come our way, from having to learn the basics of running a business to running a successful and entertaining show, and overall how to market ourselves better and withstand any obstacles in our way! It’s not easy being an entertainer. It comes with a lot of hard work, dedication, and many years of little to no recognition. Drag Is a mainstream art now popularized by the television show RuPaul’s Drag Race, and the competition is fierce for bookings and venues. There hasn’t always been space for us, but we’ve always made our path and tried to create new opportunities for all performers!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Inferno Drag Shows’s mission is to create a safe space for all POC, queer and trans folk, and Our patrons and allies. To provide an entertaining show guaranteed to make you sweat! We are proud to be one of the most diverse casts in Phoenix, including indigenous, black, Latinx, and trans artists. As well as continuously bringing special guests ranging from drag kings and AFAB performers to Burlesque and Camp queens, and everything in between! What sets us apart from any other drag show is our fresh, unique take on drag and our ability to evolve and improve constantly!

In terms of your work and the industry. What are some changes you expect to see over the next five to ten years?
Drag is already a mainstream sport from magazine covers to film, and music drag has invaded every aspect of the world and will continue to do so! A shift we hope to see within the next 10 years is even more young trans and queer people feeling supported enough to live authentic lives without fear or shame. Protect our youth and give them the tools for success rather than watch them struggle.
