Conversations with Haley Nishida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Nishida

Hi Haley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got started in photography after a major injury prevented me from returning to competitive sports. I finished out the season on the sidelines and picked up a camera to have something to do. I fell in love with taking photos and the camera hasn’t left my side since. Today after many, many obsticals I have followed my love of photography and now shoot professionally working for myself.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not! So many struggles with learning the ins and outs of running my own business and all the struggles accosiated with COVID. This hasn’t been a smooth road at all, however I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve learned so much and I’ve become such a better photographer and buisness owner.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Versitility is something I pride myself on. I don’t specialize in one type of photography because honestly I love it all. I don’t ever want to limit myself when I can learn and do so much more than just one facit. I get the most buisness for headshots and portraits but I’m most proud of my passion series and my wildlife photography. I think my versitility, passion, and unique style set me apart from other photographers.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Sometimes taking a step back allows you to reset and comeback with a new perspective. Taking time away from photography as a business for a while and only doing it for myself made me fall in love with the art of it again. When COVID restrictions were finally lifted I was able to get back into the business with a new fire and passion.
