Conversations with Grady Hoss

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grady Hoss.

Hi Grady, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Grady Hoss & The SideWinders is a modern day Ameripolitan country artist with classic country twang.

Singer/Songwriter Lance Davis aka Grady Hoss lost his father in 2016 to the mind crippling disease Alzheimers. Years prior, during his dad’s 8 year decline, Lance revisited the sounds of classic country music as a way of remembering the father he once knew “pre-Alzheimers”. Davis recalls “Dad was born in Glendon, North Carolina in 1931 and was a country boy through and through. Growing up as a kid, I loved rock n roll but Dad LOVED his country music and it’s all I heard around the house, on the radio in his ’72 GMC pick up truck or on the back porch shucking corn and snapping green beans or on the kitchen radio while he made his signature Sunday morning breakfast”. Davis fronted several rock bands throughout the 90’s and early 2000’s but turned to country music in 2014 when his family situation inspired him to do so. Grady Hoss and the Sidewinders (GHS) is a musical tribute to his late father.

“Dad always used to tell me that I should write country music….well… now I do”-says Grady.

Inspiration for the band’s name:

GRADY – Dad’s middle name

HOSS – Dad’s nickname given to him by family and old friends

SIDEWINDER – Dad’s CB handle in the 70’s and 80’s

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a musician is always challenging.… Especially nowadays being you have to wear many hats as an Indie artist. You have to write your own songs, record your own songs be your own manager, sometimes be your own label and your own booking agent and now we are contending with AI, which is a whole other ball of wax! My goal is to educate society on what it is to be an artist and/or a musician. There’s so much that goes into it. I know a lot of people think that we’re just having fun “doing what we love”…. Which we are….don’t get me wrong, but it’s ALOT of work. Please support local Art and local music at all costs.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer songwriter both in country music and rock, but I also produce and mix other artists such as Joseph Arthur(NYC/AZ), Selena Garcia (NASHVILLE/LA), The Bailey Hounds (PHILA) etc etc.

With GRADY HOSS, I’ve had the pleasure of touring and warming the stage for national indie country artists such as Dallas Moore, Whiskey Myers, Jason Boland and the stragglers, Zephaniah OHora, Sarah Shook, Angeleena Presley, Adam, Hood, Sam Outlaw and Sunny Sweeney.

Grady has a new single coming out JAN 17, 2026 called “Hair of the Dog” on all streaming and download services online!!!

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
For musicians and singer songwriters… write as much as you can… Even when you don’t feel like it. Don’t just rely on the muse. Also teach yourself recording. Even basic recording… It’s valuable and easy to collaborate with other artists around the nation.
