Conversations with Grace Mia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Mia.

Hi Grace, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I became interested in modeling in August of 2018. That same month I left for college and began doing photoshoots with various local photographers in Phoenix and Tucson. When COVID started and we went into lockdown, I spent a lot of time practicing how to do my hair and makeup as well as getting accustomed to different styles of clothing to model.

I started doing photoshoots again in the fall of 2020 and that is when I realized that modeling is my passion and the career I want to pursue. I started to come out of my shell a bit more and fell in love with being in front of the camera. In the Spring of 2021, more photographers began reaching out to me to have photoshoots which were so exciting! I walked in my very first runway show in August of 2021 and that is when I realized that runway modeling is something I can pursue as well. It was such a thrilling experience.

Editorial and Runway are my main styles of modeling but I am always looking for more opportunities to build my experience. I have also recently started my portfolio to establish all of my work and be able to form more collaborations with photographers and agencies!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been the smoothest road. When I did my first couple of photoshoots, I was extremely nervous and didn’t know how to put myself out there. My confidence also wasn’t really that high so I was always indecisive with which pictures to post or show people.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a runway and editorial model. I have walked for the LagosPHX fashion show and will be walking for The On Central Fashion Show this March. I have done a number of editorial photoshoots which is what I am more proud of.

I would say something that sets me apart from others is how I am always looking for a new opportunity to collaborate with other models, and photographers to get my name out there.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice would be to keep going and stay persistent, as cliche as it may sound, anything can happen as long as you put your mind to it. Having confidence in yourself will make others see it in you too. Something I wish I knew starting out would be to be less self-critical and be proud of who I am and what I look like.
