Conversations with Giovannie Dixon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Giovannie Dixon.

Hi Giovannie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
How I started doing art came from wanting to learn how to create art and owning what I create. So I made an opportunity for myself to explore art and give myself a chance to find a craft I was passionate about. And I started by paying attention to what I liked to do and what I was good at, and from there, I narrowed it down to visual arts, which led me to tie dying, then to vjing and even 3D modeling, but then one night I came across a mural that overly piqued my interest for many reasons. And the next day, I bought spray cans to figure out how they do what I saw with this “crazy” medium. Now I got to where I am today as an artist by putting in a lot of hours and surrounding myself with people who are better and more experienced than me.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth? Not at all, but I enjoy the trials and tribulations. It builds character and teaches you what’s for you and what’s not. I’ve had many struggles and more to come, but the hardest ones are usually when you are in your own way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a visual artist primarily known for my mural work. I’m most proud that I have been able to embark on this artistic journey and find my way as a full-time creative so far. And what sets me apart from others, I would say, is that I’m a fast learner, and now that I have an excellent foundation and understanding of “art,” my unique and creative approach will start to flourish.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes, learn to have multiple income streams.
