Conversations with Gil Sandoval

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gil Sandoval.

Hi Gil, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I stepped into the marketing world about two decades ago, long before I had a title or a portfolio. I literally went door to door to local businesses, offering my services for free just to learn, build trust, and sharpen my craft. Those early days taught me humility, grit, and the art of listening, which became the foundation of my career.

That hustle eventually opened the door to full-time graphic design, which became the perfect companion to another major chapter of my life: music. When my punk-rock band, Safe Haven, started gaining traction, I found myself touring internationally as the lead singer/Bass player while designing on the road. One of our songs was licensed for a feature film that became a box-office success, and that unexpected moment changed everything.

The studio behind that film invited me to join their team as a creative director. It was a crash course in entertainment, storytelling, and the business side of filmmaking. After several years of learning all I could, I felt called to build something of my own, an agency that blended my love for marketing with my growing passion for independent film. That vision became The Sandoval Agency.

Six years later, my brothers and I launched Sandoval Studios, our own indie film studio. What started as a dream has grown into two theatrical releases and three more films currently in development. Our goal is bold but clear: to transition fully into feature film production by 2027.

It has been a winding path filled with marketing, music, and filmmaking, but every step has shaped the way I create, lead, and build. And honestly, it still feels like the beginning.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has definitely not been smooth. I have found myself at many crossroads, facing difficult decisions and sometimes choosing a path that felt like the wrong one. What I learned through all of it is that you have to keep moving forward no matter what.

Very early on, I realized that the common denominator among truly successful people was not talent, intelligence, or even perfect preparation. It was something much simpler. Successful people refuse to quit. They keep going long after most people would walk away, and that mindset has carried me through every setback and every lesson along the way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At my core, I am a storyteller. Through Sandoval Agency, I help businesses of all sizes build genuine, memorable brands. We specialize in brand identity, design, digital marketing, and film marketing. We are proud to work with major film studios nationwide. I’m known for blending strategy with creativity and helping companies communicate who they truly are.

That same passion fuels my work at Sandoval Studios. My brothers and I develop and produce indie films with a focus on bringing hope and faith to theater audiences in a fresh and creative way. We handle every part of the process from writing and production to marketing and release.

What I am most proud of is how these two worlds work together. Branding and filmmaking may look different on the surface, but both rely on clarity, heart, and purpose. What sets me apart is the blend of experience across these creative fields and a commitment to telling stories that matter, whether for a business or for the big screen.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I grew up with very little, but my childhood was filled with moments that still make me smile. One of my favorites is the trip my parents planned to take us back to Guatemala, where I was born. They saved every dollar they could and decided the most affordable way to get there was by bus.

The journey was exactly what you would imagine: riding through Mexico in an old, crowded bus with about twenty strangers, heat pouring in through the windows, conversations in every direction, and a sense of adventure that felt bigger than life. It was chaotic, wild, and unforgettable.

One day, we’ll turn that trip into a movie.
